In all the years I’ve been on this forum I’ve always been more than a bit surprised that single seat cars just don’t seem to be very popular for road
use. Given the amount of cheap wreaked motor bikes available and their obvious risks (ex biker myself, banned by the wife…) a safer 4 wheeled
alternative seems an obvious success. So why isn’t it?
There was the Haynes single seater project for a while which seemed to die but tbh it looked dated from day one…
Surely a formula F1000 (Jedi) type car modified for the road would be ideal? So where the flaw in the plan?
Understand your thinking.
Is it still the case that open wheeled cars have to have their wheels covered with some form of wheel arch?
Are suitable steering racks difficult/expensive to find?
Is complying with relevant lighting laws difficult?
Russbost on the forum here may be able to answer some more on this.
Something like a locost version of the LCC Rocket would be amazing

Would work well with an old Audi A4 as a donor using the 1.8t engine and gearbox. This was what the Edge Devil (actually an Audi 80, but close) and RCR/Superlite Nemesis used. Guess the closes thing is the Tr1ke or the Spire.
My Roadrunner Racing Sr1 is what you need! R1 5VY engine and weighs 380kg
I've Always hankered for a 60s single seater for the road. It's planned once I finish the locost. My biggest fear is we run out of petrol the rate I'm building.
I think being such a financial undertaking, to build a single seater is very selfish.
You may want to ride solo now and then, but most of the time you would want to have some kind of company...
I lost interest in riding bikes as my wife was getting more and more afraid to ride with me...
And I was not that much of a daredevil, she was just afraid of someone running over us..
Even thoug I threatened to get a girlfriend that liked to ride, it was just not fun anymore to ride solo all the time...
I'd prefer no one else in the car to moan I'm going to fast
... If they want a ride they can build their own
