I use a little 1.3 cdti AstraVan to tow my Locost to track days and similar, but it’s developed what I think
Is an overfueling issue.. I’m out of things to try so if anyone’s got any bright ideas before I bite the bullet and take it it in somewhere (it’s a
205k miles, £500 workhouse that I’m reluctant to spend much money on!)
No Fault Codes
Carbon cleaned it, which improved things.
Spill test: 3 injectors outputting 2ml, 1 injector outputting 6ml
Replaced this injector with a refurb, still not great. Refurb Injector was putting out roughly 2ml.
It looks as though this injector has been replaced before as it’s different to the others, cheap brand.
Re-Coded the injectors.
Still horrible, it’s half missing, and still no fault codes.
Everything else seems okay...
Anything else to try?
Thanks in advance!
Probably not cold enough weather wise to make much difference at the moment, but glow plugs all working as they should? any change as the engine warms up to normal operating temperature?
Thanks,
Yea Plugs are fine. No change when warm... still runs like a bag o’spanners!
Dual mass maybe?
Have you done a compression test on it?
Gary
I’ll have to buy a compression tester, anything wrong with the £20 Draper EBay jobbies?
It has to be a diesel compression tester
I had one of these engines in a Corsa once, gave the same symptoms you describe - boost hose had split so it was running dead rich.

As above split hose or hose leak ?
Or fuel pressure regulator ?

Thanks all, i knew i'd get some sense here.
Diesel Compression Tester ordered.
Any easy ways to test the fuel pressure reg without a second one handy?
Can't see any hose splits, and i've had a good look with a torch and a good squeeze! There is a hairline crack in the manifold, but i
can't see that causing these issues.... unless anyone with far greater knowledge than me wants to tell me otherwise!
Still no fault codes, although running a lot better after swapping all the injectors and re-coding.. feels like more of a shake, rather than anything
else now.
Could judder from the dual mass setup shake the engine to the degree i'm experiencing... i don't know. Gut feel says not - although there
are kits to convert to single FW on ebay for reasonable money.
I'll do the compression test and report back!
