It all looks OK, but what online/paid or free checks would you use these days before you part with your hard earned?

As Gremlin said above, MOT history says an awful lot about an owner of a car
An owner who is diligent, and trustworthy will have an immaculate MOT history, as anything that was an advisory will be fixed before the next MOT
It also shows if any Factory recalls are kneaded
Obviously a car under 3 years old you can not check
I'd pay for a full RAC check on the car, it's £15 but they guarantee their data up to £30k in claims but read the terms. I've done this
many times including with Cazoo (who I'd recommend and would use again). £15 compared to the price of a car isn't even worth a second
thought.
Although I did buy an Astra for £40 and a pack of beer so I suppose I wouldn't have bothered then...

one other thought,
if it is a ford, made since ~2000 we can check the number plate and the vin match up via their etis system for independent operators.

you can try this, give me the no.plate of a random ford near you, I shall give you the vin, and you can check it against the vin in its windscreen

Not ready for electric, nor in my budget yet anyway
so I'm getting a cheap EV for 95% of my journeys (local) and a cheap derv for anything longer
range. The savings in fuel pay for the tax & insurance of the derv with loads left over. Big savings overall.
I would like a V8 before petrol is dead and the one I want is north of £25 K used , so any drop in value is a plus for me.
Won't be bothered about re sale value just the running costs as I can see the government upping the cost of using gas guzzlers to force us into
EV's.

Funny that’s on my list too. never owned my own V8. Still enjoying the Flat 6 and ran out of space for any more cars, but I have one car that’s ripe for a V8 Engine swap, else as you, may just have to Take the plunge even if it’s an old cheap yank before they’re outlawed by tax

That seems a plan. Though I think the number of longer journeys I will be doing is right down now the kids are properly off our hands. So am tempted to use a restomod car for that and swallow the fuel hit (poss saab turbo engine) as zero road tax and cheap insurance.
But what is a cheap EV? Leaf seems good value. But never actually been in one. The fact they have been around for years is encouraging.
