Hi all,
I've taken apart a couple of BMW's in the past few years as donor cars for my E30 project. They were both E36's (a 328 and a 325) and
have pretty big cats in the removed exhausts. I have no need for them, so I was thinking about cutting them out and selling them. Any ideas what the
going rate for a Cat is these days and how difficult they are to sell given all of the thefts? I did own both the cars, but they are long gone! If
anybody knows anyone buying cats near Aylesbury/MK please let me know!
Cheers!
There are plenty of online companies who will buy your cat but don't expect any clear price structure and they'll always claim hard times for the market, its so sad their continually barely making ends meet so don't be expecting much. Don't cut it up, they need the serial number to know how much to swindle you out off.
You need the part with the eu approval number to get a value, without this they generally give scrap iron prices for cats.
Most oe fitment cats will be worth £50-300 depending upon the number, an aftermarket replacement cat will be worth £2-3 - no i haven't missed the
zeros, they are virtually worthless as there is barely any platinum, palladium or rhodium in them.
I don't know which scrapyards operate in your area, i use emr metals who are ok and seem to cover alot of the uk, you'll have to register
for an account, and they only pay by bank transfer.

I recently sold one on ebay, from an MX5. I put it on a 10 day auction, but had loads of offers come in very fast, in the end I got £400 about an hour
or so after listing, not sure of its true value but I was pleased with it.
Values are all over the place. Ebay may give you an idea of value, I guess look at the highest price they have fetched. But that number is all
important.
The fact they ar being stolen again, suggests that there is significant value in the scrap, but also probably makes them a higher second hand price for this that are replacing the stolen ones without an insurance claim?

I advertised an st170 one on Facebook and just said give me your best price, I had a lot of people msg me with prices varying from £100 to £220, the
chap who came to get it traveled the country picking them up.
