Purchased an aluminium ladder from a local auction and chopped into two parts. one for the cycle holder on the back and the other for a small ladder to the bed above the cab. The runs are 30 mm square and quite hard on bare feet. Will do a search on the net for some sort of cushioning, but has anyone have a pointer to 30 mm u section neopreme, foam?

Pipe lagging and cable ties

Roll cage padding, various sizes and durable .

Personally I wouldn't go for padding, you're still putting your bodyweight on an area 30mm long by maybe 50mm wide (depending on how big your foot is). Padding will just compress.

We had a similar situation when we were shopping for my daughters cabin bed, the metal framed ones came with very thin rung ladders. We went for a wooden one and it's far more comfortable because the weight is spread over a larger area. It doesn't need to be much, maybe three or four inch platforms attached to the rungs with brackets?

Make up some wider wooden platforms to fix to the RUNGS

Assuming the cycle holder's on the rear outside of the vehicle?
If so wear some shoes.

For the over cab access part then (as per adithorp above) make up some wood steps to fit on.

Job done!

Start again with wood ladder for the step?
