Anyone have any experience of costs ofimporting a car from Northern Ireland
Two scenarios
1. Car is still registered with its uk registration .
2. Car has been de registered in Ireland to be used as a race car .
No experience of this.
Is Northern Ireland not part of the United Kingdom?
If so, is it actually importing?
Wouldn't be surprised if the DVLA treat it as such.
Might depend if you want to re-register it for the road in the UK?
From your OP it sounds like you want to import a race car from the EU (Republic of Ireland) to the UK. If the car is in Northern Ireland, you’ve
already done that!
DVLA don't know what the UK consists of. my tin top was first registered in Jersey, which is part of the British Isles, but not Great Britain or
the UK. however the v5 states in special notes:
"was registered and/or used elsewhere in the UK. declared manufactured 2013"
and yes I have a note of its jersey reg.

The DVLA website explains what to do to register a vehicle at your permanent home address in England, Scotland or Wales that you have purchased that
is currently registered in Northern Ireland, see: https://www.gov.uk/importing-vehicles-into-the-uk Looks like tell DVLA of the new address and
keeper.
Something that is no longer registered sounds like it would need an IVA and registration with the DVLA.

Car was iva’d and registered in Northern Ireland. Then for some reason the owner de registered it ( I know what the reg was)
So now dvla say they have no record of the car and it will now need to be iva’d to current regs .
Seems from trying to decipher their site there may be fees/ duty to pay if I bring it back albeit -:
A. It’s a non registered race car ( could be fun at the port proving that )
B. It’s a registered vehicle lacking the plates that dvla has no record of
Dvla or hmrc have been little help thus far .
In my eyes as N/ ireland is part of the uk there should be no fees and i should just be able to bring it back to England registered or not .

If I enter the reg on the Gov.uk website mot checker the vehicle comes up with mot expired so you would assume dvla here May deal with ni reg’s also .

just a thought,
since iva is not applicable to cars over 10 years old...
if you are registering it in england wales scotland,
if you can prove the car has legally been on the road, is unchanged from that time, not scrapped, and is over 10 years old, you should not need a new
iva.
but you would need to get an mot on it, to register it again.
This must be quite some car!
Is there nothing similar / the same available here in England so you can avoid all this hassle?
