It seems the street lamps are getting worse day by day or is it night by night
The lighting gang has just changed the lamps down our street and they are crap no light at all yes they are turn on
If you are aloud to park on a night under these lamps I think you should have parking lamps on your car now
Rant over
G
I've observed the same.
1. Councils making cost saving efforts?
2. Councils/government reducing light pollution (go somewhere properly dark to see the difference)?
3. New houses round our way have solar paneled street light installations as well (backed up by mains I'm guessing)?
No, they're not crap here, they're all bloody LED floodlights that light up your bedroom window and the rest of earth by reflecting off the
moon they're so bright.
I hate street lights, they're utterly antisocial, have been shown not to make things safer in multiple studies, and are just there to placate the
masses who think light=security.
Technically you have reflectors front and rear for parking but in a lot of situations you already legally should use parking lights.

Fair point that light doesn't necessarily = safety!
I believe some councils even switch street lights off in the wee small hours (most likely cost saving is the ultimate benefit for them).
Carry a torch, don't expect the world to burn megawatts and cause massive light pollution just in case people are walking by. [mildly serious,
but appreciate you can't always carry a torch - just a bit tired of society's endless drive toward lack of individual responsibility]
And then blame the land owner for not properly maintaining their tree. Back when we had massive baseloads to burn from coal power stations street
lighting made sense. Hell it could now if it was presence-sensing, but having it always on, everywhere, is just absolute abject wastage and pollution
and makes places less secure. There have been countless documentaries where burglars were asked if street lighting put them off, and they said no it
just lit their way, sensor-based lighting highlights their unexpected presence and put them off.

I grew up in the middle of nowhere where there were no streetlights and it was utterly dark at night, not even the glow of a town. Apart from the odd
walking into the car to find it, I don't recall any issues. I hate street lights, I miss seeing the stars properly and could see the Northern
lights on many nights, if I had a big switch I'd turn them all off.
It's about time the street lights have motion sensors and only come on when there is someone or a vehicle is near them, not only would this save
heaps of electricity it would make it very obvious something is there. LED's should be able to deal with this very easily. I live near a new
housing estate where the streetlights don't even go out during the day! What nonsense.
