I run a medium sized factory and need a decent cordless phone for when I’m away from my desk and doing the factory walkabout and odd jobs.
I mentioned this to one of the plumbs that works up in the purchasing office and have been presented with a home style cordless phone, it looks lovely but wont last 5 minuets in a factory environment and you cant exactly fit it in your back pocket. I have told him to send it back.
Does anyone know if it’s possible to get a traditional mobile phone (or a more robust cordless) to work through a landline switchboard? I have a company mobile but, I prefer to take calls through the switchboard so that I can ignore calls if needs be.

I think BT used to do a landline and mobile with the same number but can’t find any mention of it on the website.

Ive got a carry phone at work and a normal phone that are on the same number . The carry phone is very robust and has a good signal. It uses a hub on the phone socket so either phone can be used. Im not too sure of the make, i will check tomorrow for you.

I don't work for BT but do specialise in all things phones. One of my customers uses exactly the solution you describe of a standard DECT phone on their phone system we installed. Ideal for wandering round the factory and v cheap way of doing things. Just select the handset wisely, there are thousands out there.

Another solution is the Nokia mobile handsets which support wifi. With the right phone system in place these phones will register to your landline system via wifi when in the factory/office and become your mobile as soon as you get out of range. However, it's not a simple retrofit to an existing system.

The solution alluded to re mobile phones that BT do is called BT Fusion but is very limited and won't integrate with your phone system.

BT are TOTAL CRAP!
I'm supposed to have an ADSL Max broadband connection, with a download speed of 5.5Meg.
BT say they can't understand why I don't get the speed ( for three days it was below 400K!), so I did a speed test on BT's web site.
