Really stuck
dan8400 - 24/2/10 at 06:56 PM

I can't get my megajolt to talk to my pc. First time i've had one and this is the first time i've used it. I'm using serial port on the pc and i've check it over and over to make sure its the right COM port.

I am going crazy. Just cant make it work. The autosport labs instructions are confusing me to death. I dont know how to do the command promt thingy. I am loosing my mind!!!

If anyone can help i'm all ears. Got a track day next friday and can't even get my megajolt going.
Really don't want to have to cancel

any other program using the same com port ???

Do you have a Sony Ericsson phone with the software on your computer?? If so you may have to remove it or use another computer.

What operating system are you using ?

Are you using a 9 pin cable or a usb serial adapter ?

Also keep in mind some 9 pin cables are not straight through, they cross over. You can check with a multimeter.

Ive had the same problem this week. I can get it to run on the kids desk top with xp but not the laptop with vista.

go in to Control panel>system>device manager>

you should see the com port,

Advanced>

set it to com 1

Do the same in the mjl software and it should go.

You definitely have the MJ powered up on the car (or power supply) when you are attempting to configure it don't you?.

First of all

Using hyper temminal open it up on the com port with setting 9600 etc etc . Setting flow control to NONE.

Now link Pins 2& 3 on the cable with a small bit of wire. You should now see what you type in the hyper terminal window this checks the com port...... ( also know as simple LOOPback

If that works now check with the software cable should be "null" or twisted IIRC.

There was a batch of megajolts a while back that had faulty Max232 chips this can be changed it required.

Also are you using a real com port or a USB to serial converter.

mcerd1 - 24/2/10 at 08:31 PM

this is how it should go (I think)
please tell me if I'm wrong or I'll be in trouble soon (well sometime anyway - who knows when with my build)

megajolt powerd up, connected to the serial port and the correct serial port selected in the options
(9v battery for power in this case - my car isn't exactly ready for it yet)

load up the map I want to put on to the MJ

write (send) it to the MJ

assuming you happy with that - then commit it to flash (i.e. save it onto the MJ)

the other icon is to get the current map off the MJ and onto the PC - these icons will be grey'd out if it can't find the MJ

[pics are clickable btw]

Thank you for all the replies. Plenty to try there.

Just to let you know i'm on vista. I'm using a proper coms port and the cable and adapter that came with the megajolt.

Will try all of the above again.

I have an old pc which is not vista, i'll try it on that too

I don't have sony ericsson software... i do have samsung. Not sure if that makes a difference.
Thanks
Dan

The only version of the configuration software i can download is version 4 . 0 .0
The newer ones dont download.
Still can't make MJ talk to pc. Some ports i try can' be opened and others have an error code on 'line 29'????

When i try and open global controller options all i get is: 'a communications timeout occured'

Confused

Dan

SOunds like you have a basic RS232 problem rather than a Megajolt problem.

You need to be able to get a low numbered com port to open correctly. Vista may not be helping Do you have an XP machine...

Another thing is the Megajolt is 12v supply your 9v battery may not give it enough jucie to write to the flash. Do you have a car battery you could power it from instead.

Try this RS232 loopback on the "free" comport. Once it works then megajolt may start to commuincate

dan8400 - 25/2/10 at 08:39 AM

How do i know if any other programs are using the same com port?

I dont think there are but cant test it
