A question for those of you who have experience with the zetec.
I have got a 1997 2.0l phase 2 zetec from a mondeo, it has just over 100k on the clock but runs well. Should I be doing a rebuild on this or just
giving it a good clean.
Just to let you know I have never stripped an engine before, however happy to give it a go if it is worth it.
Thanks
Just clean it and use it
If it's not ok then a replacement will be a lot less than the cost of a rebuild
Cheers
Mark

Thats what I was hoping to hear.
if it aint broke, dont waste time trying to fix it. Good luck. Chris
Clean it up, paint it, happily do another 100k in it.
The only exception to the leave it be theory (at least with more modern engines) is if you are planning to be a class winner at some sporting
discipline.
In which case you really need a professional engine builder and a big sack of cash.
clean it paint it and do a service (cambelt ect).
Then thrash it
Bits from burtons alone are over £300
Mine had done 78k and had vertuay no ware..Shouldnt have rebuilt it but its done now.
You can buy a very low millage engine from a breakers For £250.
I once read an article that said the Ford zetec engine was made by Yamaha. It was built to such tight tolerances that it would be diffucult for an 3rd
party engine builder to match, and that there was no point because there are so many secondhand ones about and a short motor form Ford is only £500
service exchange. Just paint it service it and use it bin it thats what I say.

Zetec SE, the all ali engine is Yamaha designed. The others are Ford or Ford/Mazda, same thing really.
Everyone is in agreement then. Clean it, thrash it and if it blows up get another one.
Sounds like great fun to me.
One thing i will add to this. Being 97 wont it need a cat for sva?
