Good news and well done by the Sweedish goverment, just a pitty our goverment didn't do it for our once motor industry.
A pitty GM got involved with Saab in the first place.

Never had a Saab, though would've liked a 99 Turbo back in the day.

This is very good news for them, and just goes to show what a spineless bunch of $%"%^" we have that couldn't be assed to save MG R.

Hallelujah!

I really thought it was all over. As noted before I've wanted a SAAB for a long time but its been a while sine they built something I wanted. Perhaps, free of GM and there accountants, they'll have a new dawn and make some more record breaking cars.

I want to see a 9-3 replacement with the engine the right way round, the option of 4WD and Hatchback and coupé body styles. I want to see them return to racing in a big way.

This news has really made my day, perhaps there is hope.

'Fraid I agree with TJ ^^ all very well buying them but long-term do they have the resources to not only maintain the brand but develop it in the future?
Only time will tell.
BTW for those hesitating about buying a current SAAB 9-5s are a good buy and not tainted with the "Vectra in different clothes" handle.
Cheers, Pewe

expect to see a low carbon SAAB soon to offset sales of the V8 Spyker. You've got to hit that 120g/km target somehow.

On a positive note, SAAB have all those lovely new cars just waiting to start production, so you've got about 8 years or so to get established and design the next generation of cars. It's a better position to be in than Rover when BMW sold them off.

Just before the plug was pulled, MG had a line up of new everything that was very close to being ready for production. Would've taken so little from the government, in reality to tide them over.

Especially when you consider how deep the hole is now

Who owns MG now? Maybe we could revive the marque

I'd love a Saab, it's pretty much the only car you rarely see round here. Gotta wait for the Mondeo to give up the ghost though, which probably won't be for another 5-10 years at least!

The chinese own MG and recently started selling TF's again. They also own most of the names that made up British Leyland like Austin, Wolsey, Morris amongst others, though they don't own Rover (I believe Tata do, I'm also sure I read something about plans to make a lesser Jag as a Rover stateside, but it could have been a few years ago).

Iirc Nanjing own the the Rover and MG name, though Shanghai Auto use the name Roewe (which sounds like Rover in chinese. I belive Nanjing and Shanghai are now part of the same group.

BMW own the Triumph name.

They use the one that sounds like rover because they don't own rover, its because the Rover name was being used under lisense by MG Rover for reasons related to Landrover.
Basically its because ford didn't want Landrover (A brand they considered Premium) sullied by lesser cars. I fairly sure the Rover name went with Jag and Land rover to Tata.
