My crap fiat punto
well!where do i start!
the clutch was on its way out!so i bit the bullet and replaced the bugger!
clutch is fine but whenever i drop it down a gear at slightly higher rev's,causing it to engine brake, there is a big clunk!almost as he its
forcing the gear in to location!
any ideas?

Fix it again tomorrow (fiat)
sounds like the gearbox, they often give that sort of noise out when decellerating. Alternativly have you checked all of your mounts?

if its a 1.2 its quite common for the difs to explode and exit through the casing. the old bravo 1.2 box is stronger and will fit the older punto
engines

If its a 1.2 8v, then the head gaskets don't last more than 30k, some of the heads a porous and cannot be skimmed - such joy!
If you can keep you head, whilst all others around you are losing theirs, you are not fully aware of the situation

Sounds like a needle roller bearing in the gearbox main shaft is seized --- causing friction between the two ends of the shaft in effect it is like
trying to engage to gears at once. --- usual cause is low oil level, only cure is strip the box or new gearbox.
