Modify tintop...TBs
As standard my tintop has quite a high compression high RPM 1.6 16V engine...
Runs a multipoint injection system with a single throttle body with a long convoluted manifold..
Has drive by wire...
What I want to do is remove the standard TB and fit bike throttle bodies..
Do we think it would be possible to transfer the DBW system from the old TB onto the new ones.... and then run the engine using the standard wiring
etc... perhaps with a remap? Im not sure if the ECU would notice a change in hardware so long as all the sensors etc are properly setup on the new
tbs..

how is it metred? manifold pressure or air flow?
the %age opening of the bodies will be different in relation to the throttle pot due to the linkage.
I suspect it wont be as good as you think.

it will be a bit difficult as all the standard sensors are designed to be mounted in the standard single inlet manifold. e.g inlet air temp, air flow
sensor/map sensor at some point you will have to link each inlet together into a pulse chamber to get the necessary readings for the ecu, which kind
of defeats the object of doing it.
if you can afford throttle bodies then whats another couple of hundred for a standalone ecu? i think some of the better ones can do drive by wire so
you dont lose cruise control if that's what your worried about.
the biggest problem with modern cars is that there are so many systems tied into the ecu it becomes a pain in the ass to replace them and keep all the
cars extra functions.

Hmm...
The idea of keeping the ECU was to allow me to still use the VW diagnostic systems built into it.... and as you say.. every other system in the car
needs the VW ecu to run...
So perhaps this isnt going to work
I guess I would be better off porting and cleaning up the head and inlet manifold to make sure the air can flow as well as possible...

or just leave it how it is and save your time and money.
if you cant then just remap it. its never going to be fast its a lardy VW
remember there is no replacement for displacement, if its not fast enough sell it and by something faster.

Another option is acceleration through weight reduction.
Interior will weigh a lot as a starter. Keep it safe and dry for when you decide to sell.

My thinking....
I am in the process of buying a spare engine... pretty cheap... so was going to "fiddle" with the spare engine as I rebuild it..
then swap it with the one in the polo which is comming up to 100,000 miles...
Its got 130hp and weighs just over a tonne... so its not THAT slow...compared to the average tintop...
I just want a project to fiddle with lol!
