On what engine?
I've heard that some Haynes manuals carry the engine numbers and are accepted as proof.

what engine is it? Do you need more proof than you did for SVA? I used the donor V5 and the engine chart from Burton power and that was acceptable.

I take it that things have been tightened up?

C20XE from a vauxhall calibra I believe.

Theres rumours that you can see date stamps on the cams via the oil filler cap and also that I can get the dates from the haynes manual but I was under the impression these weren't acceptable?

the thing is they werent fitted to any cars apart from ladas after 1995 anyway (which I believe is the cutoff date for the emissions test?)

I got the engine through ebay so dont even have a proper receipt/the advert details.

It's always been expensive to get a letter from Vauxhall confirming engine age.

http://www.locostbuilders.co.uk/viewthread.php?tid=83574

Engine dates from the Burton catalogue were deemed acceptable for SVA, but Ford engine numbers include the date in the number iirc.
No idea if they've tightened the regs for IVA.

Might be worth emailing VOSA and asking them what evidence they will accept for Vauxhall engines.

There was / used to be a long standing thread on Mig web showing all the engine no's for 20XE'S and C20Xe's and C20 XEJ's
Along with which cars and age they came from. I'm sure i had a link to it on my old pc I'll have a look tonoght.
It may just be enough to narrow it down for you.

If it looks wrong it probably is wrong.

burton catalogue was acceptable at my iva. it just has to be in a recognised publication. e.g catalogue with a chart like burtons, Haynes manual, etc. v5 is not accepted as proof of engine age.

Would it be any good if you could confirm it is just pre 1995 or do you need the year as well.I have a 2.0 8v engine and letter from Vauxhall stating that it does not require a CAT as it does not have a C prefix on the engine number they could not tell me the year of the engine because it was over 10 years old they faxed the details over to me this was a few years ago but I was not charged anything although I did have to ring customer services 3/4 times before they did it for me (think I still have the number)
Also have a Total Vauxhall mag with article on what all the engine codes mean.

May be worth contacting the IVA station you are going to as my car went to Nottingham for its SVA and they took a photocopy of my letter.

Hi matty, my engine is C20XE so that 8v letter wont help but thanks for the suggestion.

Do you have the facility to copy/email me that engine code information though??

I can try and scan it tonight and send it over to you do not know how much use it will be to you but I can send it a you can look for yourself, PM me your e mail address.
There are several Vauxhall forums that may be able to help such as Migweb,Performance Nova Group or VXON.
