Tintop help - OBD
Hi all,
So I have a 2002 Peugeot 206 1.4hdi and last week the check engine light came on. I got an OBD-II lead off ebay and I just cant get it to work. The
cable hardware seems fine but it refuses to connect the software just spits out an interface error (0100).
Now i know OBD-II wasn't official on european diesels until 2004 but all the websites I've checked suggested it would be fine. The ecu is
a bosch edc16c3 and is used on tons of diesels across lots of makes.
So any electrical guru's got any tips? Any help that means I dont have to shell out for someone else to do it would be gratefully received!

Had similar issues with my cheap chinese ELM327 knock off...
1) Are you using a USB-RS232 adaptor? Some have problems. If it's a Prolific PL2303 chipset then try getting the newer drivers from
prolific.com
2) Try it on another car?
3) Which software are you using? I use ScanXL, ScanTool.net, wOBD and ScanMaster.
4) Is your OBD-II adaptor the correct protocol? OBD comes in several flavours and some adaptors will only talk to one type.

A 16pin OBD2 socket dosen't always imply the car is OBD2 or EOBD compliant, especially on vehicles built before the dates the EU forced
manufacturers to become EOBD compliant.
I doubt if you will find any budget tool that works, EOBD was only compulsory on diesels built after 2003 and even after that date Peugeots diesels
notoriously fussy about the scanners they will connect too..

Thanks for the replies, the cable I got was
this one It came with a bunch of
different software, ProScan being the main one. But I can well believe that it's just a french car being picky and difficult!
As far as I know the bosch ecu uses one of the kwp protocols. I'll try that driver suggestion tonight.

I would think an ISO protocol. KWP is mainly Ford

Right, so I updated the serial driver, downloaded some more software and gave it a whirl. Just to be extra thorough I tried all the protocols, with
every program. Surprise, surprise - no joy.
Arse! Feckin french cars!
Any more inspiration?
