Toyo 888
Intresting read from VXR forum Iv’e allways lowered mine….
What a fab track at Rockingham on Sat. They have now changed the circuit layout & we were the first to try it out. There were 7 VX’s there on
the day and we all put on a good show. It was nice to put faces to the names from the forums.
One big eye opener for me was meeting the head of Toyo Motorsport tyre Division. Up till now I and many others were under the impression that a
typical set of tyre pressures for the track should be, give or take a bit 23 psi for fronts & 26 for the rears....How Very Wrong!
The Toyo guy carried out much testing & setting up on several cars at the trackside, 3 of which were VX’s and Bugger me! Optimum Pressures for
R888 or A408’s should be approx 30 psi for fronts & 32 psi for rears. We were obviously sceptical, but on the track and after getting plenty of
heat into the tyres it all made sense. Improvements were very noticeable; grip levels on another level, but only once the tyre tread gets up to a good
temperature of 37-40 degrees.
I’m buying a tyre temp probe soon, now that I understand what I should be aiming for and how to make adjustments to tyre pressures & damper
settings.

There as to be a starter point pressure wise but I have always run whatever pressure gives a even tyre temp across the full width of the tyre, be it
15psi or 30 psi, may explain some of the irregularities and speed differentials a couple of years ago ? We ran 26psi in the morning in a 7 ? Unheard
of in bar room circles ? Down to 20 in the afternoon.

Yep Ive been banging on for ages about these toyo 888's. You simply cannot run them down at a ridiculous 14 16 18 psi. The very soft sidewalls
wont allow them to work down there. Testing shows significant improvements at much higher psi and far better temp control.

Procomp what would you say is a good cold PSI for R888 and A048 on a se7en?
Im willing to try any temp on my tyres. Its one of the free mods you can do that make a big difference!
Track days ARE the best thing since sliced bread, until I get a supercharger that is!

Hi
In Basic terms.
The working range HOT for an 048. is 22-24 psi. The Toyo is a little different as the soft side wall generates more heat into the tyre due to flex.
But best results HOT where found to be around 28psi.
Cold settings are going to vary depending on how the car is setup ( Soft / firm ) and off course how hard its being driven. Best bet is to achieve a
good setting hot and see how it settles when cold. Will also give you an idea of differing psi required cold to achieve equal when hot.
