I had a 90bhp one a few years ago. It got quite good MPG - about 50 on a long journey IIRC.

I had the saloon version as a company car approx 9-10 years ago. Mine did 45-50. A bit less on short town journeys. A nice comfy reliable cruiser.

Only thing that bugged me was the headlights fogging on the inside. I had the car from new and they said that they would only fix it once under warranty

Yep,

A 1999 90bhp one. Only had it a few weeks so can't report long distance cruise figures
but it's giving 40mpg from day to day running.

Other than having less power mine was a better car than the Passat TDI that replaced it. Much better built and had less go wrong with it.

I'm running a 306 with the 90bhp HDi engine. I drive like a loon and still get whatever is in my sig

I have to say, for a diesel it's very petrol-like

Not the HDI one but the 12 valve predecessor, used as a Taxi and I get somewhere around the 40+mpg overall. The Hdi one that we also have on the fleet does get slightly better overall fuel economy. The only real complaints that we have of them is mostly electircal faults like some times they eat bulbs. Other than that they make very good long distance cruisers.

Really???

I was going to get a passat tdi. Iv had 2 and loved them. Just looking at these as they cheaper for a newer car. But i know the peugeot will do a bit less mpg than the passats.

I used to work on them when they first came out and didnt give any trouble but they were got rid of before theyd done any real mileage. The HDi is a nice smooth engine just unsure of what mileage theyl cope with.

Yea, the Passat had electrical problems, the air con filled the footwells with water, several bits of the interior trim fell apart, the rubbing strip on the doors peeld off.

Generally not good.
