How much to move a couple of cars a few miles?
I need to move the locost (running and drivable but not road legal) and a polo, both at different addreses about 5 miles. I have had a quote of £60
per car via local(ish) firm on fleabay but think this is a bit steep (not sure what the going rate is).
Alternatively, is there a locostbuilder in the East Sussex area with car transportation equipment that is available sometime next week who could help
me out for a bit of beer money?
The polo is uninsured and untaxed btw so towing isnt an option

just wait until about 3-4am, you don't have to have insurance or tax or mot at that time

If it's five miles of country b lane roads, just get a mate to go in front of you late at night (5am ish?) and lead the way.. the only person
you'll hit if the worst happens is him!
If it's through fairly populated areas, I'd check www.shiply.com

About 20p - to phone in to book in at the nearest MOT test station(s) to where you want to get them. You may have to cancel when you find an issue on
the way mind - and take the car home!! 
It would mean insuring the cars mind - but there's companies do day insurance (and may be worth asking your current insurer)

if you do an HPI check on a car, you get free 7 days insurance when you get a quote from Aviva, so costs you £19.99 for a weeks insurance

when i was young we would just get a friend to drive near us who was prepared to start doing handbrakes/burnouts to draw attention away from you

There must be some people round you with transporters that they use for racing etc that will move them cheap for you.
My mate would do it for not much but hes a bit far away.

Thing is, the 5 miles is only part of it, it's the having to turn up ap a particular place and time, and load and secure the vehicle, then
unstrap and unload the vehicle at the other ned
I think £60 is not too bad at all
Just had another look and see it's £60 each, maybe thats a bit much. £90-£100 for the pair would be a bit more like it.

Can't you hire a car trailer for a weekend down there?
In Leeds you can get a trailer for £40 a weekend.

Try Shiply who operate thru Ebay, but also have their own site. You list the job and folk bid on the job.
I got a car from Cardiff to Devon for £75 in a rush, and one from Cardiff to Essex for £120.
Transporters who are returning from a job with an empty bed use them to choose convenient en-route pick up to cover cost of fuel.
Don't accept first few bids though and stay flexible for best price.
