DVLA, la, la la... we're not listening.
The following post, is pasted from the PPC forum, please feel free to copy and re-post on any other car related forums...
Having an bit of an issue with the DVLA at the moment and it turns out from the other members of basically every motoring forum in the country that
prety much everyone else has had an issue with the DVLA in the past at some stage.
So I have come up with a really nice way to getting some retribution. If everyone of us gets together and does this it'll be fantastic. The DVLA
has as we all know an inefficent postal system so I was thinking of sending them a nondemoninational seasonal greetins card by special (signed for)
delivery. The reason it has to be special delivery is we can 1/ pick the time 09:00, 12:00 or 14:00 (I think) 2/ request the letter be signed for
individuallyand not in bulk. So by sending a whole bunch of cards on mass to all arrive the same day; say Monday 20th December for example it would
tie up the DVLA admin' office all day.
A Special delivery of a card would work out about 90p plus the card itself.
So anyone who has had to pay a £40 fine for not declaring a car SORN they scrapped two years previously dispite writing letters and arguing with a
faceless Guilty until proven innocent and even if you can prove you're innocent we're above the law and'll fine you anyway
DVLA-la-la-la I'm not listening faceless robot this is our chance (duty) to stick it to them.
Please do not break the law in doing this. Don't wipe your bum on the card or write something obsene. Just a nice friendly seasonal greeting to
jam their postal system.

pah, that's nothing.
I posted a wheelie bin full of cats to them.
Imagine their surpreise when they open the bin and 40 ravenous cats, assuming I drillled enough air holes, jump out!

Personally I had no problem with DVLA when I registered the Fury. Last week I phoned them because I realised that I hadn't renewed the retention
document for a private plate (2years ago) "Let me check, yeah no problem. Just post the document you've got along with the fees and
we'll sort it".
Screwing the system up at Chrismas will just delay the tax/sorn/registration/etc of anyone who's unlucky enough to get caught up in it... Not
like it's not thier busiest time of year already.

Surely it would make more sense for everyone to send a card expressing dissatisfaction to the minister in charge of the DVLA - you'll waste his
staffs time (obviously not his) and they'll moan, he'll have to then get involved and see what is going on.
It then may be worth tipping off the press so they can ask just how many cards he got and get pressure on that way. (when you tip off the press if you
give them lot of examples they can quote you're making their life easier so its more likely to make it into print).
Or am i just being sensible?

The point of me reposting this was to try and start a bit of a debate.
I don't think it's the best idea in the world, but it did start a debate, about ideas for plans of action, about peoples problems with the
DVLA.
Seeing as there is no, independent body you can go to if you do have a problem, such as:
1) being fined for a car you sold 2 years ago.
2) have been pulled over, charged, and had my car impounded, for driving on a provisional license, even though you passed your test 10 years ago.
(both have happened to me, and the DVLA, said it was my fault on both occasions).
I just think it's bad when a government organisation with so much power, can make so many mistakes and cause people alot of problems, with no
way of appealing, without the expense of going to court!!

dvla checked and registered my car in 3 days.
once i got a sorn fine wrote back with a copy of the receipt showing it had been correctly scrapped and they replied within a week saying thanks for
the info the fine has been removed from the system.
never had a problem with them.

What's this about, I haven't updated to a photo licence, I still have the old style licence valid until 2020 or something.

Its been in the news before, plenty of people have lost there entitlement to drive/ride vehicles whilst innocently registering a change of address
etc. And they say we don't keep pass certificates its not our fault take your test again.

To answer your question, this incident happened a few years ago.
I have had a full drivers license since September 1991, it now(and at the time of being pulled up), also includes full; motorcycle, tractor, class 1
HGV, road roller, and tracked vehicle entitlements.
Basicly, if it can go on the road I can drive it.
Also, I was still living at the same address as when I passed my test, so had never had to change it.

why put so much effort into something which will only make things worse? why not do some thing productive like make petition or write to your MP?
Why waste your own time an money to put out a huge number of people for something which will in no way benefit any one at all (Bar the post Office).
Taxes pay the poor employees who'll be drawn away from thier jobs to spend time sorting out cards, your taxes, my Taxes.
Are you even sure this plan is legal? conspiracy to deliberatley disrupt a Government organisation could well get you arrested under anti terror laws
these days.

That sounds fair to me, at least the daft idea I've reposted has got people talking about more sensible options.
I think with some debate, it might be worth starting a facebook campaign. Sometimes the authorities take note of things simple through a campaign
gaining enough supporters.
Although I do like the idea of all the letters being sent on the same day, rather than in dribs and drabs. Just to get the point across by shear
volume of letters arriving.

Why would the DVLA take notice of something on Facebook? If your gonna do something, do something worth while and get people to actually do something
rather than say they'll do something on the internet.
Does anyone actually know how many mistakes the DVLA makes compared to the number of things they have to deal with? I'd put money on it being a
very small percentage.
