most people in sweden still have 2wd cars...........

they just fit good tyres (legal requirement). the government also put crushed granite on the roads too .

how many people in this country are prepared every winter to buy winter tyres ?

Coozer - that looks too good /pricey for me but I would have thought people would have been pestering you to buy that round your neck of the woods!!

Nash - what is that a trooper? Looks a hell of a nice car for 800 notes.

With regards to suzuki's etc they would be great for the immediate snow. However not so great for my secondary use as a general crap mover and for towing my kit about, so they're out.

I have looked at getting winter tyres however for my tintop your looking at around £600 for a set.

what about a reliable Renault Laguna.

You can get mine which has 195-65-15 and a set of alloys with 205-55-16

All that for £900.

just for reference...in the snow...and its hilly around here. (Rossendale)

My Dad (65) has a 1998 Freelander 1.8, he runs all year round with M+S tyres, i think they are ...lol.
He says" i dont know what everyones problem is" with a big grin.

I run a 2006 Impreza WRX, 215/45/17 bridgestone potenza's, it does ok but can fishtail a bit.

My mum has a 2003 Freelander TD4,,,complete bag of poo, it wont even get off her drive, its crap in the snow
i dont feel safe in it to be honest and it has hill decent, traction control and apparently an open open diff on the back...that explains a lot..tut.

It is a Isuzu Trooper BIGHORN (Japanese Import). 3.1 TD 7 seats, leather, Climate, Auto, Auto Lock hubs, Electric heated seats, Handling pack by LOTUS, Electric windows and wing mirrors (heated and retractable), Hi-Lo ratios...... oh and a hole in the rad . Its a great tow car and it has been all over the country.

I can also recommend the General Grabber AT2's as an all round tyre. For £90 each they are the dogs dangles.

I bought it off a mate of a mate from the North East (in Hutton Henry. Thats the place not the bloke ). He was running it on 50% chip fat and it was cheap as.... no I won't say that to run. I don't bother as I don't do enough miles per annum to worry (with three cars in the family, wifes, the Indy and this the mileage is spread out).

I'll stop waffling now. Suffice to say the best utility all rounder I've ever owned.

Hope that helps.................... Neil

It's beginning to look like if you're planning on keeping it for a few more years it might be worth buying a set on separate rims just for winter
