Another "new car for SWMBO" thread!
My wife is wanting a new car - well, a few-years-old car anyway. At the moment she's driving a 10-year-old Daewoo Matiz that has served her
well, but is now showing it's age (the car, not her!).
She wants a small 4-door runabout that's not too much bigger that the Matiz: I want her to have something that gives better mpg and is more
stable on the road (the Matiz handles a bit like a 2CV on the corners, and the steering's way to light for my taste). It need only be a town
car, as it wouldn't be used for long journeys (she drives about 4,000 miles a year). The idea is to get some mainstream manufacturer's
run-of-the-mill car that will be easy to drive, reasonably fuel-efficient and inexpensive to maintain - or no worse than any other car, anyway!
So - any ideas?

at least you wouldn't loose it in the supermarket car park
seriously though I think your just down to the usial suspects:
ford ka / fiesta
vw polo / skoda fabia / seat ibiza
fiat panda / punto
and so on......
not sure if this will be fuel efficent enough - but it sounds cheep enough:

Yeah, and you could probably do all the servicing and repairs yourself. Im sure the tyres arn't too dear either!
How long can i resist the temptation to drop a V8 in?

If she was doing more mileage it would make sense to look at a small diesel but only doing 4,000miles a year it's not worth paying the extra.
My other halfs old C3 would easily do 70mpg

I reckon pandas offer excellent value, 2 year old ones from 3.5k, should be cheap as chips to run.

One of the Ford/Mazda or VW/Seat options .
Forget the Fiat ones - cheap as chips but from what I can see they are either at best OK or money pits.

Hyundia Amica ........ My wife loves hers, quite a tall seating position helps with driving / parking view and very economical to run, tax &
insure

VW lupo.... Or the Seat alternative (same car different badge) (probs best looking at something year 2000-2003).... Apparently they are great fun to
drive and chuck about... Either 1.4, 1.6 petrol and I think there was a diesel..
The GTI version of the lupo shares a lot of parts with my polo GTI.. really well made car and I quite enjoy working on it because its put together in
a logical way, unlike the KA I had to work on the other week...
My 2001 Polo, considering its age is almost "as new" in appearence and drive-abiity... if not better... (and I have nearly 100,000
miles on it)
