I have heard about this process before.
Another one I read about is to use the power of the sun in deserts.
Basically they use the vast amount of sands to make class, this gets made into tubes and filled with water. The water is super heated to steam which
produces high heat and electricity. In turn this makes energy to turn sand into glass and then its perpetual.
Either way we need to make electricity for the masses so the automotive world can be enjoyed for many generations to come!!!

I've been asking the same thing for about 3 years now. Why are we waiting for the hydrogen cars to come out? Why are we waiting for the electric
cars to come out? When is this synthetic petrol going to be made? And now this one, never mind when why is it not here already!

James May did a program about these kind of technologies a couple of years back. Included a visit out to the desert where they were making petrol out
of exhaust gas using a solar powered furnace.
It was part of the 'Big Idea's series. Recommended viewing if you're interested in these kind of things, or even if you're
just intrigued by technology.
