Is anyone a member on the Terrapin forum?

As per the title really - I want to buy a set of terrapin plans and have got my account locked out somehow.

I got an email from Clare Staniforth some time ago with prices, but seem to have deleted the mail. If anyone's a member on there, could you please drop me a u2u so I can get some info across.

Many thanks!

Steve

Ah, was that Clare's email you just sent me?

I'll drop her a line.

Cheers for the info

Not sure when I'll start building a terrapin, but I picked up an original (and still brand new - even got the old postcard to send for the plans!) book a while ago and want to have a set of plans to sit there with it on the shelf until I'm ready to tackle it.

what's the price of a set of plans, could work out cheaper in the long run than waiting for Chris's book

£80 for plans and £20 for book, book is necessary unless you have a terrapin to go and look at. and besides its a great read...

The plans for a BEC conversion are quite steep on top, but if I were thinking about it again, I wouldn't buy them...

I'd reconmend the book, its an excellent read - not sure how totally essential it is to build the car, but its enjoyable.

I'm not sure whether I'd build an A Series car as a classic style trackday car (obviously would need cycle wings and a silencer), or a bike engined version like Ed Holliers car

It's hard to ignore the performance of the ZZR engined car (though admittedly Ed Hollier is clearly very fast regardless)

depends what you want to use it for.

i have also heard trackdays being very dodgey about single seaters. even road legal ones.

if its for hillclimb and sprint, bike engine, if its to be road legal, mini engine (or modern Japanese lump)

I thought about a modern motor, but wasn't really sure what. 4AGE I suppose would be a straight forward choice.

I quite fancy the idea of a Honda V4 - ST1100 or maybe a VFR 750/800. Not exactly R1 power, but it still wouldn't be any slouch.

For a modern car motor I think I'd go for either Zetec-SE (exhaust on the same side as the A-series), or the left field choice of Nissan Micra 1.3 - tiny, weighs nothing, costs nothing has a small light gearbox attached and is simple to tune up (well getting rid of the pea-shooter exhaust and manifold and a better inlet gets you more than most A-series can achieve reliably without serious cash being lavished on them).

I suppose the correct evolution would be a modern Mini engine. And might as well be the supercharged unit
