Anybody know about legalities for vintage commercial vehicles
We are looking at buying an Austin k4 1940's truck, restoring it, putting a jag aj6 engine in it and using it as a car transporter. It would
weigh under 7.5 tonnes, but what would it require in terms of mot, plating etc etc??

My '72 TK was class 7 (now class 4 as it's registered as a motorhome now) That'd be my guess but I'm not sure if the age of
the austin changes things. Sounds awesome btw!
Edit: class 7 is 3000-3500kg, not sure why I had that in my head. HGV at a VOSA station then I'd guess. Lots of the adverts for older
commercials say 'tax/MOT exempt' but I can't see any conditions on the V112 that would actually make them exempt

aha!! Cheers for that, just looked into the exemptions and you are right, pre 1960 HGV's are mot exempt....which was nice!
No MOT and no Tax....ideal car transporter, just a shame about the inevitable 8-10 mpg it'll probably do!!

I think you may run into problems if this is being used " in conjunction with or for your Business " but thats only likley to come up if
you are pulled by Vosa. But even then suspect you would get a warning before getting into trouble.
but might be talking a whole lot of twadle.

Did wonder about that, think would go for it and see what happens. Technically would need a tacho unless there is an exemption on that too, must read
tacho rules again ( argggh talk about deciphering!!!)

Running a K9 for the business, would need a tacho and mot done at your local HGV test station.
If its used for "hire or reward" then the K9 would attract as above. Why a K9 , is it the 4x4 ?
What about this , less rot and looks much better.

Or if you want 4x4 , then try a GAZ66 - I know my Russian trucks, and a GAZ will go anywhere a UniMog will.

If its registered as private you don't need a tacho, or a limiter
Truck I took my test in was registered as private, road tax was £165 which I sworn at it for and it didn't have a tacho.
