I don't dislike it, but... A decent solid donor for it is going to cost best part of £1500, then say £3k on the kit/respray etc.

Then it would still be 108bhp engine...so you look to fit a turbo to make it more elise like and your staring down another £2k...unless you DIY it.

Thats 6.5k..you could get a real elise for not an aweful lot more cash.

I said in another post, I think this is appealing to a different audience than us - so I wish them all the best with it.

Yup elises start at 6.5k....... And there is no comparison between a £1500 MX5 and a real elise. If it does work out similar costs.

But to be fair you're not going to buy an mx5 to fit the kit. It's going to be aimed at the current owners. If that's the case it's only the price of the kit plus fitting.

I like it, i think the appeal of just doing some bodywork sounds kind of nice too, if i had an MX5 that was a bit tatty then depending on cost i would be very interested.

After all, my Luego Velocity is basically a 'loose' copy of a Lotus 7, plenty of friends have been to our house & asked me why i want to build a car, i usually say that if you have to ask then you wont understand ?????

If thats a loose copy of an Elise, who cares - if you like it then i say go for it

Not that you can see to clearly in those pics but it does look very good quality bodywork, and to echo the tuning comment earlier in this thread if I was into drifting I'd totally do one of these, you can picture it caked in stickers and a huge rear wing with smoke pouring off the rear wheels..

i don't think it is aimed at current mx5 owners. as in the description on the website it hints at the mx5 looking like a hairdressers car, or at least hints that others may think your a hairdresser. i would find it a bit insulting if someone said that about my pride and joy...

I'm starting to think that this car is more of a style for a proper project car than an MX5 rebody.

If I was building one I would use the MX5 shell and MEV body but then wack something like an RX7 Turbo engine in it making something fast, good looking and with great handling.

The only thing I don't like is the wheels, they are too big and too CHAV, some 13"'s in gold would have looked real purdy.
