Rust

I dug my Pug 106 XSi out of storage today. First task once I got it home was to get three years of dust / chicken poo off it.

Anyway, the body paintwork is now nice and clean, polished and all pretty much OK. Bumper trim will need re-blacking, but that's a job for another day (product).

However, there are a couple of areas of the shell / seams that are starting to rust. I want to try to kill it off, and then treat it to prevent any spread. Can't be re-spraying the shell, so needs to be something I can brush on?

Also lots of the running gear is very rusty (wishbones / drum back plates etc) I don't really want to strip everything down to component level and stick it in the electrolosys bath. Happy to wire brush / angry grind the loose material off.

So I need a locost solution / treatment or two? Any recomendations?

The rust killers are all phosphoric acid. You can get it off the bay, much stronger than in the little bottles.
VERY STRONG PHOSPHORIC ACID RUST REMOVER & DESCALER | eBay UK
Tip, use a bit of tissue paper so the are acis doesn't just run off vertical surfaces
I would wire brush etc first, then phoshoric acid, and then try a paint like POR15 (not hammerite, nowhere near as good as it was when I first used it) or even just spray with aerosol cans of black, it is surprising how well it stays on. Not perfect, but tidies it up.
had success with bondaprimer too, good stuff.

A good jetwash removes a lot of flaky rust too.
