peugeot 307cc rear roll hoops? can they go back down?

awful car, anyway, my dad took my mums car to the post office today, went round a gentle corner, and the car decided it had rolled, and fired off the rear roll hoops, and seat belt tentioners. i assume the car is now screwed without a hefty repair bill.

i stupidly opened the roof to see if the hoops had gone (the rear head rests looked different, but i didn't know if thats what they were) and of course they ratcheted up, and won't go down, so now stuck with the roof down and it looks like rain

any ideas if they can be released and pushed back in in order to get the roof back up?
car won't start, so don't worry, its not going anywhere (certainly not with me driving anyway)

any ideas? they clicked on the way up, so i guess there MUST be a way to release them?

Im no expert on this model Blake, but a search of the Pug forums shows up a common water leak from the thermostat housing and or coolant, leaking into ecu. Sounds a common fault and it blows the ecu for airbags, roll hoops and belt pre tensioners.

Have a look here first and have a good read..... pug forum link

Hope that helps identify fault.

cheers andy! i'd seen something like that elsewhere, pretty sure thats its problem, but MY problem now is i can't get the roof back up, and it looks like rain out will probably be swimming with water tomorrow. well, i'm getting 2 ducks on monday, looks like they've got a new paddling pool...

i really need to get those hoops back in so i can put the roof back on. the rest can be sorted by peugeot lol

If they are anything like an Audi A4, there will be an over centre catch at the bottom, flick this over and push the hoop back down -no resets, no bother

If you can keep you head, whilst all others around you are losing theirs, you are not fully aware of the situation

I searched and cant find a re-set precedure, Im sure it must be a simple system like the Audi A4 but cant find any reference to it. Might be a case of digging around in the rain Im affraid!!!

it just sort of went click click click as it went up, so i reckon there must be a latch thing that can be pressed in, maybe with a bar through a hole or something like mark says.

wrapped it in a huge tarp for tonite though, will have a look tomorrow i think.
the tarp will probably scratch the paint, but with the roll hoops having fired (similar to airbags i think, going by the smell dad described) seatbelt tensioners going (same sort of system) ecu probably blown, i'd be surprised if this car isn't written off. searching the fault on the internet seems to suggest £3k to fix?

i'd happily take an angle grinder to the whole car. every time i drive (very rarely, because its so bad) it tried to kill me. try and pull into a roundabout, plenty of space, but a car's approaching some distance away, pull out, hesitation, lack of power, suddenly that car that was a a fair distance away is now coming up to the side of you, and its too late to give up.
that and i was driving down a narrow bit of 2 lane road, accelerated a bit, took my foot off the pedal and it kept accelerating on 'full' (as much as its got...) power at a bus coming the other way, with no room for us both.
really not cool. angle grinder's too good for it

Considering what fun cars the 306s were, it's incredible just how bad the 307 really is. Almost as though Peugeot deliberately produced the most boring, unreliable, crap car they could possibly come up with in order to better fit the stereotype of French car manufacturers.

They can not be reset only replaced plus check the boot floor because that's where the ecu lives for water ingress you can remove the the roll hoops to get the roof back down

cheers DRC yeah, i know they can't be reset (only replaced) but the roof needs to go up before it rains and it just ends up full of (more) water.
will have a look to see what i can do tomorrow...

Shouldn't Peugeot be fixing them seeing as the whole thing broke? If my airbag went off for no reason I'd be having words with Ford

Most definitely, she will be having words with them tomorrow, but was more just a 'in the mean time in need the roof back to' ie keep water out.
