Becking a pug
After a little research I have found that missus's 106 has a little 1.1 engine deveolping (according to Wikipedia) 58PS, so probably about 50
now.
For a while I've been thinking it would be pretty sweet to remove that little lump (there's a Morris Minor round the corner that could use
a doing up, maybe it would go well in there?) and replace it with something similar sized in a BEC flavour.
I've read up on a few bits suggesting a ZZRR1400 or something like that but I'm not to keen on wedging something in (I had the 1.5 diesel
and that had about enough room to drop a screw) so does anyone have any suggestions what I could put in? I'm looking for something maybe about
100bhp, probably up to 150, anything above that is just gravy. Actual cc would be less of a concern than it physically fitting though so if anyone
knows of someone that has actually done it? (Google's showing little on the subject)

Modern sport bike engines are very compact and will likely be smaller than the engine you take out so it's pretty much take your pick. Anything
600cc up will be well over 100hp at the crank and well over 150hp at crank for liter and up sports bikes. I'd go for cc's to get more
torque.
You'll need to look at chain diffs, drive shafts and whether there's room for them, but I suspect as you can fit these engines in round
nose Minis that there will be!

Ah never thought of it that way. To be fair this is the first car I've seen where I can look in the engine bay and see ground (all the others
have been that packed!)
I've just thought of reverse too....

Promotive are well known for doing R1 engined FWD Minis. They make subframes and whatnot, so I'm not sure if they'd do much for a 106. You
could probably get a lot of information out of their previous work, at least.

What about a Fiat Panda 100HP motor - light and should be as cheap as chips and none of the hastles re gearbox, reverse etc - and should be much more
suited to a heavier car body - and Fiat make good economical motors.
Will be a much less frenetic drive and should use a lot less fuel than a Bike engine.
