Help with ford ka water leak problem

Hi all,

I look after the sister in laws ford ka, which has the old endura-e engine.

Unfortunatly I get a panic phone phone call the other day saying that the high temp light had come on and there was steam coming out of the bonnet.

I was hoping for something simple like a split hose, but it's actually leaking between the head block and the plastic intake.

Here's a picture showing where it's leaking.

Can anyone offer some words of advice regards what's involved to fix this leak ?

Cheers
Tris

At guess the inlet manifold gasket, most cars with plastic inlet manifolds have rubber/polymer gaskets that shrink with age and start to seep, however before pulling everything apart check the nuts for tightness.

Looking at it further it 100% looks like it's that gasket that's the cause.

Does anyone know how I get the inlet manifold off ?

Ed - using your really dodgy adjustable spanners normally then involves the use of my welder in order to try and fix the damage caused by the use of those said spanners !..

Well found the problem - i need a new gasket, exactly like this

Does anyone know where i could get hold of one tomorrow in Beds, Herts or Essex ?

Cheers

Mate, all seriousness, Northampton have the biggest warehouse of Ford supplies on hand. Only thing is i cant remember the name, however it does back onto a large Ford dealership as part of the same site. Worth ringing a few in morning. First one you speak to will point you direction.

I know this is an enormous long shot but I have the exact same problem with my fiancées Ka and it's coming from the same point I think. I'd love to see the photos you mentioned but they're not online any more. Could you repost them and perhaps tell me whether this job was relatively easy? It looks quite intense just looking at all the parts in the way and the limited space in the Ka engine bay. How long did it take to finish the job?

Any advice or photos would be really gratefully received.

Stuart
