New tin top
After much looking I found myself a new tin top. I've had the luxury of a brand new co. car for so long I'd forgotten what buying a used
car was like. Must have looked at 20 odd cars until I found one that ticked all the boxes.
I've had one before as a co. car so was pretty sure it was what I was after. Picking it up next week.

ask the misses where she gets here information from! Cars are only expensive to fix if you can't fix it yourself!

Should be fine then as there's nothing boy racer'ish about a lumbering great estate car often crammed with SWMBO, 3 kids and associated
clutter.
On the other hand if I were to find the time for a track only 205GTI the new tin top would be just great for hauling it around

Good call.
We've had our 07 saloon for about a month now.
It may not be what you would call an exciting car, but it's just so good at getting the job done and demands nothing of you. Really really good
at overtaking, which is a boon when you just want past with the minimum of fuss.
The only issues I have is that it's extremely easy to light up the front tyres. Ours is a 140bhp TDI,but I'm told they typically make more
than that. Whatever the case, I seem to get mid 50s on a run and am averaging 48.5 all in.
Is yours manual or DSG ?
Ours is DSG.

What's the maintenance costs on them like? I've never really considered having one but every time I mention VW missus says they cost a
fortune to fix...

Ours is DSG.
It's a 2.0 TDI 140 manual. I had one for 3 years as a co. car so knew exactly what I was looking for. As you say, very very easy to live with
and IMHO very good to drive for such a big car. No slouch on the move either.

As above I ran one for 3 years before. They're on a long life service schedule which means a service every 18-22k miles. If you use a good
independent garage the servicing costs should be very reasonable over the life of the vehicle.
In terms of fixing it if it goes wrong, my view is that all modern cars have the ability to bankrupt you because they're so complex these days.
It's a risk with any car!

It's a 57 plate so not entirely sure, but guessing it's a PD...?
