Best Diesel Estate for under 3k

I need a diesle estate for work. I am a big fan of Volvos but I'd be looking at huge miliage at that price. Also looked at Mazda 6 estate but have heard horror stories about relatively low miliage car ?!?!?!?!?!?

Any one have any thoughts.

5 series? Almost all are high miles but they will do the long haul.

You should find a Rover 75 diesel estate with around 120k on the clock for less than £1500 If you want to pay more you will find lower mileage MG ZT estate -- the engines are pretty well unburstable (a much more reliable version than BMW used themselves) the Getrag gearbox are unbreakable.

The most likely oily bit faults you will encounter, are worn wisbones and bushes ( it pays to fit genuine QH), rear spring (cheap and only take 40 minutes to replace both).

The under bonnet electric fuel pump sometimes fails but same applies to Ford and Peugeot. Electrical wise no major fears worst I had with three Rover 75 in the family has was a couple of central locking door latches not unlocking with the blipper.

mondeo or passat. If you want 4wd, maybe subaru legacy or audi a4/a6.

Vauxhall omega. I had one, bmw straight six 2.5, towed really well, pretty good on fuel for a big car, built in germany not luton and a tardis like capacity!

I've got a 2.2 mondeo estate, 125k on the clock, and it pulls like a train, and gives 42mpg round town, and 35mpg pulling my car. Great buy.

For that sort of money I always think you're better off searching Autotrader on budget, estate and distance and see what comes up close to home. All cars have their faults and you read about them on the web. Choose one that's been looked after and look after it.
