DVLA rant
I really pity you guys trying to register cars if my recent dealings are anything to go by....
Bought a motorbike from a dealer, 17th Dec, didn't want to tax it as I'm no winter biker....
Tried to sorn it with the new owner slip... no joy.
Wait till V5 arrives.
Try to sorn online with V5, and get a really useful message saying no because of recent changes concerning the vehicle....
Try to sorn by phone, after 10 minutes listening to options, I get more or less the same message.....
Can't speak to a real person...
Tried at the licensing post office woman says they don't deal with sorn anymore...
So now posting the sorn declaration to Coleraine.
Is there something odd about getting an untaxed vehicle from a dealer and sorning it, or have things changed recently? I'm expecting the
'fine' letter for an untaxed vehicle now...
Does anyone know How dealers register the vehicle offroad.
Everything posted with proof of poating in anticipation of a fight....
Rant Over.

Do you know when the last time it was taxed..
I had a similar thing where it seemed no one was listening when I tried to sorn it, a few times, turned out it hadn't been taxed for years,
before the sorn thing came out so didn't need sorning..

Not sure when the tax ran out, but its a 2008 bike so will need sorning.
My CB750 hasn't been used since 79 and is as you say before sorn.

You just wait until you receive the new V5C document and use the id number on it. I had no problem with this recently

That sounds so dodgy. Why is it so bad to buy a vehicle and then SORN it?
As soon as I buy an MX5 donor I'll be SORNing it, although there is every chance it'll already be SORN.
Although the message talking about 'no SORN due to recent changes' might be because they're so behind schedule that it takes a month
or so for the online system to register the change of owner.
After getting pulled over the day after an MOT pass because the cops ANPR had registered me as having no MOT, I have no faith in any DVL* computer
system. Unfortunately the police do...

With a change of keeper particularly if sold via a motor trader the vehicle status goes into a strange kind of limbo this happens because under
the system only a registered owner can record the vehicle as SORNED. For the system to work there has to be so slack built into the system so
generally you have at least two weeks to sorn it after they issue the new registration document.
With a change of registered keeper you can't SORN a vehicle online until the registration document in your name arrives, however can you
send a SORN on a paper form directly to Swansea or in your case Coleraine, but I would suggest keeping a photocopy of the completed form and
get proof of posting or send recorded delivery. I would also included a covering letter describing the circumstances which I would also retain a
copy of.
