Taxing Car

Er Indoors went to tax my day to day car today. The tax runs out at the end of the month as does the insurance. She presented the renewal note, MOT and inbsurance certificate and the post office refused to issue the tax claiming that "they didnt know if I would insure it again after the 31st". I havent got a new certificate from my insurers yet. I am sure I have done a similar thing before and never been refused. Anyone know the regulations?

I've had the same thing in the past, and was advised that the documents had to be current on the first day of issue of the new tax.

Try online? Might be different.

Online and the post office both base their decision on whether you are insured on the first day the tax would come into force. However, if you sort out your insurance first (whether a renewal with the same company or a fresh policy with a new company) that should give them enough evidence that the car is insured and therefore give you a tax disc. If you order and pay for your insurance online, you should also be able to get the tax disc straightaway online.

I'd probably recommend buying a six month disc as a one off, I know they're more expensive than twelve but at least you won't have this faff every year! And it's less of a thump on the wallet.
