Replica 30's van based on transit
There was/is a manuafacturer of classic-looking commercial vehicle which I think were based on the Transit, can anyone remember who made them? Someone
wrote a letter in to Practical Performance Car and it's annoying me 'cos I used to know and can't remember!! There used to be a
burger/hotdog van that came to Peterborough's Cathedral square that was one of these beasts and I can remember clocking it and having a look but
still can't remember the manufacturer, can anyone help?

Fluer de lyes (I might have spelt that wrong...), they were based in Newark, I dunno if they're still going or not though.

Was it not originally LDV based
ISTR the reason being Sherpa and it LDV successors had full proper chassis on the chassis cab version, the Transit tippers chassis was based on
the pressings from the underside of van floor.

No, they were Transit based running gear, the first ones used mk2 chassis, then the later ones were mk3 running gear on a custom chassis.
My mates dad had 2, for wedding cars.

Asquith Motors is one of the current repro makers Iveco Dailly based.
The first repro vans on the market were definitely based on Sherpa running gear much more suitable than the Mk3 on Transit.
Strange but true fact the Sherpa was designed by the the guy who designed the MK1 Transit.
