Tax Exempt
Stolen from : 101 owners
quote:
Not sure if you all picked up on this, but the budget has altered the tax exemption date, its moved forwards a year to 1974. Is this the start of a
rolling exemption, who knows, but if it is a few more years and owning a 101 may get a little cheaper! Relevant section taken from the budget below.
2.148 VED: classic vehicle exemption – The Government will extend the cut off date from which classic vehicles are exempt from VED by one year. From 1
April 2014 a vehicle manufactured before 1 January 1974 will be exempt from paying VED. (Finance Bill 2014) Link to budget paper, its on page 84 for
those that are interested. http://cdn.hm-treasury.gov.uk/budget2013_complete.pdf

Had to click the link to find out what a 101 is, all I could think was Vauxhall
I wonder if they will roll it as it was originally intended, then Labour got in and stopped it....

This bits handy as well..
2.151 VED: tax disc display waiver
– To reduce tax administration costs, the Government
will put off-the-road declarations onto an indefinite basis. The Government will also extend the
grace period to 14 days, following the payment of tax, on the non-display of the tax disc in a
vehicle. (Finance Bill 2013)
Does that mean once you sorn your car thats it until its taxed again?

Just 9 more years to wait for my MK1 Golf to go back on the road, although I would be surprised if the exemption date is reviewed and revised each
year, probably depends on the level of debt the country is in.

A 101 will be a forward control Land-Rover rather than a Vauxhall Victor FC 101, all FC Victors (if any of them still exist) were built
between 64 and 67 hence already exempt.

My Fury is 1978 apparently. Mind you, the engine/gearbox was from a 1984 SD1, the chassis was made in 1998, it was first on the road in 2001 and
it's current engine is from a 1992 TVR. I struggle when people ask me how old it is.

Our mini is 1976 so fingers crossed for a rolling jobbie.
It will be very affordable to keep running then, just the cost of an MOT & the £80 per year fully comp insurance including breakdown cover !
