Car Transport Help\Advice
Hi guys,
After a long period of hibernation I've returned, and changed projects  However I find myself in a bit of a bind- there's a
rolling chassis over in Cardigan I want to bring back to Bristol, and the question is "how?".
I passed my test post '97, which limits my towing weight to the weight of the Seat Leon FR tow car- now the chassis itself shouldn't
weigh too much (I'm guessing about 200-300kg- no engine in it, gearbox, diff etc. can be put in the car) but I would need a light weight trailer
that I can hire for a weekend- does anyone know where I can find such a beast?
And also is there a reasonably priced alternative to hiring a trailer?

basically your in my position with regards to towing.and i was also totally unawar that the weight your actually towing behind you is irrelavent
unless the load is heavier than gross weight of trailer.
basically you can tow up to 3500kgs which is gross vehicle weight of car + max gross of trailer (stamped on plate) so lond as the gross of trailer
does not exceed gvw of car!
for example if your car had a gvw of 2000kgs your trailer max gross could be upto 1500kgs
but you couldnt tow a trailer which only weighed 300kg if its gross was plated at 1600kgs even if trailer was empty!

incidentally i have a D5 volvo S60 which has a gvw of 2050kgs and my tiltbed brian james was 1840kg gross or something so i had to sell it and
managed to find a bj minno rated at 1380kg so im at 3430kgs!

Why not hire a car transporter?
I've used these a couple of times to take my car to workshops etc.

Thanks for the replies guys.
I must confess I'd written off hiring a car transporter as I didn't think I'd be able to drive one on a standard licence- I look to
have been wrong! However I would still need to take a second vehicle to transport all the bits and pieces which are not attached (such as the
bonnet!).
As for vans... to be quite honest I know less about vans than I do about baseball, which... ummm... is not much! I guess a long wheel base may fit
the Haynes chassis if I removed the suspension, I'm not sure. Will try to do some research, but if anyone knows for sure please say

You can borrow my trailer - it's a bit Heath Robinson and isn't plated - we could sort that though.
It's properly light though. U2U me if I can help.

sevens are roughly 3.5 x 1.6 metres. so it looks like a few sorts should do the trick, not least because i presume your chassis wont have wheels
on?
i'm sure i've seen pictures of people collecting kit car chassis in normal transit vans. but a luton should be an easy fit and plenty of
room for the other stuff.

Work in Bristol, live in Forest of Dean.
It tows fine but would need to check wheel spacing as the bed is a channel at present. It has no plate but I know who made it and what the details
were when new, so we could replicate the plate.
