Tinto diesel hpfp suspected failure

Guys
My tintop seat leon diesel on 92k 2010 started acting up on the motorway and i had to stop. Car would idle but no power so i had to get recovered. Its been in the garage over a week now and they have finally said it had metal in the fuel filter and they suspect the hpfp has failed.

Looking online at a schematic though it looks like hpfp is downstream of the fuel filter so it seems a bit odd, although there does also seem to be a return. They havent given me a quote to repair yet but he was saying that it would need a pump (1058 +vat) plus all the injectors etc so could be upto 3000 all in.

So my questions are
does this diagnosis seem right.
Do i really need to replace the injectors etc. i suggest not and he relented
I can get a recon pump anyone had any experience? Or i go with one from ebay.

dont know about your seat but frauds have the same problem,chrome on the rollers in the pump breaks up and the system is toast.
there are plenty frauds on fleabay as non runners due to the price of the parts.
it is recomened that injectors are replace and all fuel lines flushed out as the tollerences are so fine,any small spec will cause further problems

so do the pug 2.0 hdi
low pressure pump in the tank breaks up,sends swarf into the whole system
peugeot replace everything,pipes/tank - the whole thing as swarf has a nasty habit of hiding away
found this out a few years ago at work with a poor starter
small amount of swarf in the fuel filter and peugeot said its the lp pump ,as we caught it early that should suffice
gsf hadnt got one in stock so we reluctantly bough genuine
back six months later with a filter full of swarf
peugeot did the lot foc - so glad we fitted genuine or we,d have been on our own

Sounds about right, friend had a diesel mondeo and the HPFP failed, it was cheaper to get another engine with all ancillaries and swap out than fix what was otherwise a perfect engine.

Also have to configure the ECU to the injectors on a ford, it may be the same on yours, the tolerances are that fine.

Thank guys having trawled he web it seemed about right. Looks like i better ring round tomorrow and get some other quotes.

Poor show for a 4 year old car with that mileage

Generally a fan of VAG cars, but when you read things like that it makes Kia (or is it Hyundai) with their 7 year 100k warranty look pretty attractive.

yes I agree having looked online its seems to be pretty common and the garage had certainly done a few (one last week). It does seem to be across the board on manufacturers as well so it makes me question if CR was a backwards step as my entire fuel saving will now be wiped. My last diesel was ford focus 158000miles and still going strong with a DI engine. Ok it wasn't as smooth and didn't return the same mileage but it wasn't that much worse. I'm thinking fix it and flog it as I see stories of car having failures in 20-40K.

Iirc its kia with 7, hyundai and toyota with 5.
Makes a 2nd hand gt86 look promising. Shame about the children!

Check with SEAT to see if its a known issue if so yo may be covered

I always throw in 50ml of quality 2 stroke oil when I fill my car up, makes it run better and hopefully keeps these injection bits lubricated, diesel is so heavily refined these days it has little to no lubrication properties.

LIterally tens of thousands of CR engines on the road without these problems with 150K miles on them (mine included). Perspective.

The sulphur removing process strips out many of the lubricity adding compounds. That's why they put additives back in at the refinery...

Yep
Mine's been in twice in 6 months, but both under warranty so can't complain, and both were "minor" things that didn't affect general running
