Elise S1 Dampers

Hello,

i have a rear Koni damper leaking on the 1999 S1 Elise.

Any one has experience replacing them ? ( the original Koni is ridiculously expensive)

What would you recomend ?

When his Koni's inevitably leaked, my brother fitted a set of S2 Bilsteins to his S1 and they worked very well.

Protech make dampers for the Elise, and are supposed to be pretty good.

You need a different set of mounting brackets to fit the S2 Bilsteins to the S1. Available from companies like Eliseparts.

But yes, they're a very good budget choice for the Elise, if you don't need adjustables - certainly a big step up from the original Konis, and probably a better choice than cheap adjustables like Protech. After all the people who selected them and valved them for the car are reputed to know a bit about handling.

Do bear in mind that you can't (or rather shouldn't) just fit a different pair of dampers at the rear - if you're going down the Bilstein route, you'll need a set of 4 (and brackets) to do the whole car.

I had the original Konis, then Nitron street series on mine (S1). The Nitrons were very good.

I will check latter tonight, but I think I have a couple of sets of used S1 dampers you can have if you pick them up from Stockport SK1.

There isalso lots of good feed back on the various options on SELOC

Might be a bit of a trip, if the OP's location is listed correctly.
