Ford mondeo problem
Hello all
I am in need of assistance and hope you can help.
I have a mondeo 1.8tdci 57 plate and just recently it has developed a noise.
When changing gears from 1st to 2nd and then into 3rd there is a loud clunking noise. That's the best way I can describe it. Doesn't do
Everytime and the noise seems to come from the front drivers side but it is difficult to say if that's exact location.
Any suggestions what it maybe? Have looked in engine compartment and can't see anything obvious

Could be driveshaft UJ
Try turning wheel while driving slowly and go ON/Off with accelerator
If it clonks as you go on/off its a UJ

They are infamous for the dual mass fly wheel falling to bits.
Any strange noises from the starter motor ?

Easy way to check DMF is to take off starter motor if the starter is full of fine grey dust the DMF is on its way out

Tried steering car and accelerating slowly and no noise. It's only when I go to change gear. It's as if it's doing it when you put
load on and let off again.
The dmf was changed at 102k miles. Done 140k now so shouldn't really be that. Noise isn't the same either

Your into a minefield of hurt
I have a 2003 Mondeo TDCI and so far have replaced lower arm, springs as one broke, front hub bearing absolute pig to get out and needed a 10 tonne
press to put it back, driveshaft, inner driveshaft centre bearing, both rear hub bearing packs
You should get the front up in the air, and check by hand for any play

Simple things first which are also the most likely: check the exhaust, "dog bone" engine tie-bar, front whisbone bushes and ball joints.

Last night I checked all suspension, springs and indeed engine and gearbox mounts. No obvious signs of wear and no movement on them when I try to
lever them.
Stumped😟

No passenger side.
Mot due next month so may put it in early and see if they spot anything
