Motability Sanity check needed!
Right, bit of a long one this.
We have a ford cmax on motability, so we pay our money, get everything covered and just have to worry about fuel. Fortunately, this means I
don't have to work on it myself. Unfortunately, I'm not allowed to when the poo hits the fan, dealership service only.
Anyway...
- A few months ago we had our car washed by a man with a pressure washer, who apparently managed to get a bit of water in the fuel tank.
Cue the car choking out at random, especially under load, obviously getting a gob full of water/no fuel and needing a moment to collect itself.
- Took it to the dealership, who said they replaced the fuel filter.
- Week later, parked the car on a slight hill (left side down) refused to start, RAC chap diagnoses as fuel issue, bleeps about with priming bulb and
gets her running, though lumpy and struggling to idle.
- Another Week later, same issue, dies on its arse in a parking spot.
- Recovered to dealership who claim the fuel filter housing is damaged and that they've "repaired" it.
- 3 days later, car is struggling to idle, back to dealership who have now discovered that the fuel filter has a crap seal and they've put
"a double seal on it" (I suspect they mean instant gasket, lazy fucks) Also they admitted that they've "cleaned the
filter" not replaced it, and "repaired the housing" which sounds like bodge tape to me.
Anyway, I'm thinking at this point that I would have just replaced the filter, housing, and sorted the whole thing in one go, Their response is
because it's not due to be done until the 3 year service (37.5k miles, and we're at 35k) they can't do it.
Is it me, or are the stealers being effing useless and rather failing to provide a workable solution?

Sounds like they are being useless. They would probably not be able to claim for the repair due to how it had happened so are just trying to do a
simple fix.
They probably then just broke it!
Track days ARE the best thing since sliced bread, until I get a supercharger that is!

Yeah, it was taken in as us clueless, just the car being rubbish (thus being under usual motability service stuff)
But it does seem like they've had the tea boy working on it, rather than someone capable of actually doing the job.

No disrespect to any ford techs on here but I once witnessed a ford fitter/tech/mechanic service a focus and not know whether it was petrol or diesel.
Need I say more?

From 12 years as a motability specialist at ford i'd go straight to motability. Call them, it's their car so they should make sure it gets
sorted. If not request an early termination on the grounds of a fault with the vehicle that the dealership cant fix, then get a new car.

I think you might be right, I'll have a bash at beating them into submission along with the RAC, who still haven't picked up their hire
car from the garage, or repaid our deposit.

Incorrectly fitted filter -- drawing air they need to sort it properly with a new filter and any other parts that are affected.

Sorted, Motability will allow us to terminate the lease due to the issues, which is nice.
Now to find something with a bigger boot and a fuel filter.
