From experience, being a good fabricator is quite a skill. I used to work with a guy who made alloy formers for silicone coolant hose manufacturers.
His skills at alloy tube cutting and TIG welding were a joy to watch. As I recall he wasn't that well paid and eventually went out on his own
for freedom to get better work and pay - he still does this and has been rewarded in doing so.
