What car to have?

Well as I've mentioned I can't drive for the time being due to epilepsy. With that situation I've sold my Passat tin top (first to look at it snapped it up as I thought they would). The longer term issue of insurance is a worry, but I must admit I'm wondering what car I'd like when I can drive again.

Of course I'd like something with poke and an Audi RS3 or BMW 135i look tempting if not expensive to buy and insure.

The idea of something economic also appeals and an eco-matic 1.6 diesel looks appealing if not slow.

Money is not unlimited for the car or for insurance so a question to the collective - what would you want to drive?

Yep, great fun. Yep, expensive to buy, run and insure when compared to...

Much cheaper to run, but a completely opposite end of the spectrum. The first set of cars were semi-sensible hatch backs that can be used for both hooning around tracks, back road blasts and doing the family shop. This is useful for the last thing, but not really the first two.

Maybe give us an idea of budget, otherwise I'm going to assume that whilst money isn't unlimited, it's a large budget and I'm going to suggest a brand new Bentley Continental GT Speed

Some interesting feedback!

I'd love an RS3 just because it's fast, but then so is a kit car.

I've had a Volvo V50e 1.6D, it was economic, but slow and rather lacking in sparkle.

Budget will be in the region of £8k for a car and insurance is a bit of an unknown at present.

Servicing will be done by me and I'm not afraid of getting dirty to do it.

I quite fancy a Mercedes Sprinter. But been looking at a Bipper. Want something that will take 20 pallets or a few ton of logs.

I have looked and the RS3s whilst nice are still quite pricey.

An R32 might fit the bill though (if not ragged to death).

it's said every petrol head should have an Alfa, but they really don't do it for me.
