registering a cat "c" as a taxi ?

Hi

Next door neighbour who runs a Taxi firm, has asked me to help, and find out (as I have done a few cat c cars)
If a cat c writeoff can be registered and plated as a Taxi

Having asked our local council office, and got the reply "what's a cat c" we are a bit stumped to the requirements

the place he takes his cars to have the test and plates etc done, also do not know, and have never been asked

VIC test is no more so all you need to do is fix it and present for mot. As long a he has the V5 for the council to see he should be fine...

I thought all taxis had to be new or at least under 5 years old when registered?

He's best off speaking with his insurance company first to see whether they will insure a cat c/d vehicle for taxi use, i know direct line and axa don't on private policies, their business policies are not likely to be any different.

Have a read of this, most local authorities have differing rules for their taxi inspections and licencing requirements, but you may find they'll accept the vehicle as a taxi but will apply the older vehicle criteria with a full inspection every 6 months regardless of age.

Thanks guys, a couple of things to ask , and insurance wasn't one of them !

ive never had an issue with insurance on any of the cars ive done for myself, or friends,
although two of the last couple of cars ive done, both insurance companies requested a valid MOT
before they would insure the cars, even though My Mondeo, was 13 months old, and a Focus for a friend was 9 months old
This did not trigger a yearly MOT before the three year timescale, even though every one including myself thought it would !

As for being being under 5 years old, is not relevant, as a 5yr old cat c car is worth about the same as a non cat c car,

ive never bought one over two years old, as there would not be any money in the deal
