Anyone else had their car emissions "fixed" by Audi / VW yet?
What are they going to do with my car?
Increase the power to make it match the real figures or decrease the power to match the claimed figures?
Did you notice a difference?

Why would you even consider it? They're going to reduce your performance so you meet emissions regs. For no reason that is beneficial to you.
They can't up the performance because the reason they were in trouble was for getting the current performance when they shouldn't, and if
they did you'd be paying more VED.
Very odd.

Just had the notice through saying they are now ready to do my 170crs diesel Octavia VRs. They say it makes no difference to performance..........
Would also like to hear from a brace soul that has had it done!

i have a little info that i think more people should know about the VW emissions recall. my brother has a Passat estate and he had the letter inviting
him to have th new software installed. we discussed it over a meal a few weeks ago. but in the end he decided to have the recall done. basically he
thought that as he is planning to change his car soon, if all recalls were done it would look better?.
anyway 2 weeks he had the recall done, and as soon as he drove out of the dealer he knew he had done wrong. the first thing he noticed was a rattle or
clatter from the engine. then over the next few days other problems turned up, power is reduced slightly, economy is changed and the DPF filter is
regenerating a lot more.
The Rattle... this occurs at between 1000-1500rpm in any gear, drive at 30MPH in 4th gear with light throttle and the noise can be heard, build speed
and change to 5th at 40mph and again the rattle is heard.
Power... again between 1000-1500rpm there seems to be a lack of power, driving uphill more downchanging is needed to maintain speed.
Economy... this is strange at town driving speed 30mph economy is slightly better up from 41mpg to 43mpg. but motorway driving it is down slightly was
60-65mpg now 56-60mpg.
DPF... this is now regenerating a lot more often, before recall it would do the regen approx every 2500-3000 miles. now this has gone to every 150-160
miles never more... however during the regen process the engine rattle and power shortage disapear.
my brother has taken his car in to the dealer who did the recall and they had his car in for investigations, they read for error codes found none and
decided to re-run the recall software. this made no difference at all. yesterday he called the dealer and asked for the old software to be put back,
as none of his problems existed before the recall. but they told him it cannot be done??. so he has emailed VW customer service to get their take on
this.
the way i see it is he has only one option... get an independant to re-map for him. but not having any experience of this the question is which
company to use? i have heard Quantum remaps are good. any advice would be welcomed

I've owned and driven a number of VAG cars, we currently have a 57 plate VW Touran. All TDIs and all have driven well. Personally I see no
reason to have VWs remap done. VW may have got caught, but my bet is that plenty of other car makers were up to the same game too.

I wouldn't have it done. Just leave it as is.
If anybody has already had it done and isn't happy with the results, Revo do some excellent "Out of the box" maps. Vagtech in MK are
excellent for this kind of stuff and will be able to advise appropriately.

But nonetheless demonstrates that it's everywhere, as mentioned it's only because VW got caught. I can't see what good can come of
getting the software update.

I doubt their remapping even reduces any penalty that VAG have to pay!
VAG may of course be duty bound to offer the remapping in some countries.
To my mind their cars work fine as they are - leave them alone.

Remember also that it is not only Audi/VW vehicles that are subject to recall. My 2 litre Skoda Yeti has had it done. I recon the regen is more often
and that mpg may well be down a bit. Cant say I am aware of any rattling noise though. I am going to see what mpg I get when I tow my Skoda Estelle
trials car on the trailer in January to compare it to previous as I was very impressed then, getting around 33mpg on motorway/A roads.

The Skoda Yeti is also a VAG car, and almost certainly uses VW components.

Yes it does David. The engine is a VW unit but I was making the point that it was across the whole VAG range which some people dont realise as the
publicity has more often than not only mentioned VW.

I recently bought a new BMW 335d. Estate
Quoted figures on a run are 49mpg. Mine averaged 50mpg in the first 2 weeks I had it. I do about 120 motorway miles per day.
After getting to 1000 miles I had it remapped increasing BHP and Torque from 313bhp and 460ft/lb to 380bhp and 560 ft/lb. It's now averaging
52.4mpg over the last 6 weeks.
Pretty happy with that!!

It certainly is David. Based on the VW Golf IIRC (my neighbour has one).
VAG may be frowned upon by some, but they do make a fair number of cars under different brand names.

THREAD RESURRECTION
I would like an update on this as Audi I hounding me with letters. Probably 1 every month or so.
Searching on the net does not bring up much. Its a tough call. I am not looking at changing the car in the near future so want it to last \ not
rattle \ not devalue due to the decision I make regarding this remap.
Any one else offer fresh insight?

I have an Octavia vRS - skoda have similarly been hounding me. On the Briskoda forum someone put their car on a rolling road before and after the
'fix'. Basically the torque curve is shifted about 500rpm to the right. Many report louder running and increased DPF regent lights.
I spoke to a local VAG independent specialist. He said he was swamped with people having issues after the fix and there was no way he would consider
having it done. He also said that each dealer gets a decent payment for each fix they do.
I have declined it on my car...

I had my Golf GTD remapped a couple of months ago and the company said whatever you do don't have the VW recall done if they contact you!
They have seen a massive increase in VAG remaps by people who have had the updated VAG map put on due to similar issues as above.

I wouldnt call a letter a month 'hounding' thats some good hyperbole.
I just chuck it in the bin like other junk mail i recieve, i might send our Passat to be done just before we trade it in to get the box ticked.
