Transit 2.4 diesel 2002 sudden cut out following minor bump
A friend has a 2002 Transit 350 flatbed, I believe they call this Transit the Mk6 & I believe it's a 2.4 diesel turbo
He had a very minor bump with another vehicle this morning, only very minor cosmetic damage on front N/S wing, drove about 1 & 1/2 miles, was
doing around 70mph on dual carriageway when suddenly the engine just lost all power, cut out, glow plug light came on, but not flashing. It now
won't restart
It has all its oil & water in, but just cranks over & won't start - did these have a fuel cut out anywhere (though wouldn't have
thought it would go over a mile b4 cutting out)
Any ideas why it would stop after a bump, has been running perfectly & is serviced up to date etc

Mate, mine's a MK7 so different but this forum is a great source of info for him:

Quick look through suggests it might be the wiring to the fuel pump or the pump has failed, apparently they do that.

He's now had a look at it & it appears to have air in the little pump section on top of the filter, this is yellow in colour if it helps
anyone identify it - is there a low pressure electiric pump on the tank side or is it a normal mechanical lift pump driven by the cam - does anyone
know - I'm way out of touch with modern (ish) diesels

It is possible that the mk6 transit diesel has an inertia fuel cut out switch. ( If an electric fuel pump is fitted )
Her's some info from the net.
If you have an accident or a minor collision(e.g. collision when parking), the fuelcut-off switch may stop the fuel supply.
The switch is located on the side panel infront of the passenger side front door.
Resetting the fuel cut-offswitchWARNINGDo not reset the fuel cut-off switchif you see or smell fuel
.•Switch the ignition off.•Check the fuel system for leaks.•Press the top of the cut-off switch toreset.•Switch the ignition on and, after a
fewseconds, turn the key to position I.
•Check the fuel system again for leaks
May not be the case but worth having a look for one. 
ETA
Seems to suggest if it has a cut off switch, it's hidden behind the nearside cup holder.

Yeah a cut off switch was the first thing I thought of, but I don't think it has one, some info from one of the Transit forums
"mk7 Diesels nope.
Petrol mk6 has,
Diesel mk6 with electric filter head lift pump has"
I don't think it has the filter head lift pump, but he's now looking for the switch just in case!

I know the last batch of Defenders produced used the same Ford 2.2 & 2.4 TDCi engines. They had inertia fuel cut-off switches, but as previously
said, Transits may not have them. From the work I've done on them, the major failure point was actually the in-tank fuel pump and sender
itself.
Artificial intelligence is no match for natural stupidity!

Defender has the newer engine, same as in the Mk7s
Mk6 has a fuel pump (electric) down by starter motor according to the Forum
Honestly, these guys know their stuff, he'll get an answer back in minutes

Seems to be loads of conflicting info, he's getting a mobile mechanic out to look at it, I will post the outcome for anyone interested!
Have joined that transit forum & attempted to post, but now waiting for a mediator to approve, so unfortunately info may well come too late!

Well, turns out it really wasn't his lucky day!! The bump & the breakdown were completely unrelated!
Breakdown turns out to be the injection pump, apparently they do just give up like that with no warning - its only done about 80,000 as well!
I told him not to waste any money on a lottery ticket today!
