Garage shelving units - recommendations?
I'm thinking of getting something like this:

Infact, Lidl were recently selling something that looked roughly equivalent -but I did not take a punt (and wish I had).
Is stuff at this price point usually decent stuff for holding boxes of tools/car parts/etc? I'm not inclined to make anything, as time is short
as always, but the garage is getting more cluttered - so I need to get more storage!

Cant comment on the machine mart stuff (looks small though), but Rapid racking is the real stuff. They often have clearance / package deals and free
delivery. My garage is kitted out with their stuff and we use it in our stores at work too.
Edit: I used the heavy duty stuff, but this looks like a similar price range to the machine mart stuff. 450mm deep is good for containers etc.

I have some similar stuff but didn't find the shelves strong enough. I have made my own. It wasn't too hard. Pinterest have loads of good
ideas.

I have used something similar but found the shelves sagged as they were only 5mm chipboard.

I have 3 sets of them, as others have said, the shelves sag, mine came with MDF shelves that are just not up to the job in my opinion, the units
themselves are good enough but you will need to change the shelves or add some stiffeners

front to back to alleviate the sagging issue. But they're also 600mm deep, not 300m like the one in your link. I'd be sceptical as to

I've been looking at various shelving ideas as well recently. That looks like very narrow shelves you've posted. Depends on the space you
have in your own garage space. You could always put a cross piece under the chipboard shelf to stop the sagging issue. £35 is ok price for what they
are I reckon.
I've concluded that the only way I will get the storage that suits my needs is to build it myself. Great, another project to take on that takes
me away from my Haynes project build.
Would also like to see photos of what others have done (if photos are possible)

I bought some of these for work and they are fine if all you’re shelving is fairly lightweight stuff otherwise it’s not that great. I ended up buying
some heavy duty industrial racking the garage which was much better although twice the depth so you may not have room for that. But much better for
heavy duty stuff and can be chopped and welded too. Mine also doubles up as a workbench.

You want Chrome racking.
Goes together easy, the shelves are very strong, and the dirt just drops through.

I used Ikea Hejne wood shelving, each shelf has a 50kg limit. Bought the first units over 20 years ago, been moved 4 times and recently added to them,
very flexible and easy to install plus they don’t scratch or rust. The plastic bins work well to and very cheap.

If you search on ebay for Trofast storage there are sometimes bargains to be had.
Here’s mine, Ikea underbench shelf and boxes and tall shelves plus a load of old filing cabinets (about £35 each for the 3 drawer ones, nuts and bolts
in the a4 paper drawers). Bench is cheap beech kitchen top and my own design of legs.

Really like that lift being flush like that. Your garage is more sorted than mine. Going into mine straight after coffee to attempt a tidy up.

I bought these for the shed and garage. Really strong and tough. Different sizes to suit. The 6mm MDF shelves have a brace but can be easily
replaced in the future. Super heavy duty and cheap. 265kg per shelf and 6ft ish high.

3x2” planed wood and 18mm chipboard.
You can create any combo you like and tie it to the walls.
Very strong, I could put and engine on it

Someone sent a u2u about the lift. The u2u system has the delete button where logically it should be a reply one and once delete I can’t find a way to
re-instate.
Anyway, it is a hydraulic lift, control box is under the bench (green box) and runs off a 13a plug, has electrical and mechanical locks for safety,
recess was built whilst rebuilding the garage so new floor, it has 8” of reinforced concrete in the base. It is blooming heavy, almost 500kg!
This is the one I got but got it on special a couple of years ago. I like it as it has no cross bar so easy to get gearboxes out. Also has extension
plates for longer wheelbase vehicles, I have since removed these and made wood filler to get the vehicle on/off. Can be used on the floor with ramps
to get on or off (extension pieces).

Thanks for all the suggestions/comments. I have order a set of the 450mm deep ones Irony suggested.
I did build my workbench and existing shelving from 3x2 and various bits of old worktops/18mm plywood, but this time I really want something I can pop
up fairly easily/quickly.

I have Whalen racks from Costco. The larger set takes a couple of hundred kg per shelf..
