BMW e39, Mini Cooper and Cooper S, Diagnostics software/tool
Hi Chaps
I have a fleet of BMW's in the house now and want to know what's going on with fault codes, reset service lights and generally manage the
cars.
Where do I buy from, what do I buy that's easy to use and how much should I pay?
Can either be a standalone system or a laptop based one?

Depends how much you want to spend, whatever you do don't buy a fault code reader that dosen't display live data and freeze frame..
The Carsoft BMW software & laptop interface is very very good but the pirate version sellers seem to have been chased off ebay.

Alternatively look at the Autel Maxidiag EU702 not only do the straight OBD2 stuff but will read a lot of the specific BMW & MINI & Rover 75
sub-systems.
It also covers Volvo and the other german manufacturers, and will read the standard OBD2/EOBD engine fault codes and live data on any recent car.
Expect to pay about £180 pounds for an EU702 you may need an adaptor if your BMW has a round diagnostic socket.

Of course if you can live with coverage of ABS, Airbags you could just get a Memoscan U581 or U585 which will read the standard EOBD/OBD2 engine stuff
and display live data and freeze frame. You can get a U581 for about £65.
I have a U581 it works pretty well.

If you take this route you will need a service reset tool, you can find them on ebay go for the BMW-Mini-Rover75 type with red, yellow and green
buttons, I use one for my Rover it works very well.

One question, between the Memoscan U581 and the Autel Maxidiag EU702, do I have big delta in terms of real world usage that I will put it to? Do they
both work with e39 and Mini Cooper (S)?

I can recommend Carsoft as well as normal diagnostics you can reprogram modules, set tv in motion (which most places will charge you £50 for)

Where does one procure this from?
What about leads and the such like?
