MEV Products...

Has anyone bought any of the kits from MEV... I think their designs are a step in the right direction from the usual Se7en tedium, but have not heard or read any owner testimony's.

I've been to the factory and have to say that I was impressed with the set-up and by Stuart's philosophy / enthusiasm.

Unfortunately my experience went a bit sour, otherwise I would have bought one of their kits some time ago, but to be fair, my disappointing dealings with MEV had nothing to do with one of their products, so I will take an open minded approach and consult with the masses... how have you found the product and factory support?

Cheers!

The majority of MEV cars have been bought by RoadTrackRace (part of smarts r us)

There is an owners club group of forums over here.

i have the diesel rocket. built it in spring 2008.

my chassis was one of the first produced and did require a bit of fettling for things to fit. Now that RTR have taken over manufacture of the rocket, atomic and tR1ke the quality/accuracy has improved. i think im right in saying that the rocket chassis is now TIG welded.

as a company to deal with theyre excellent, always available by phone and have a positive attitude to resolving any issues.

if you dont mind me asking, why did it go sour? you wernt thinking of shoe-horning in that V8 of yours were you?

Thanks guys... i clearly haven't read the site content thoroughly as I didn't realise that production had moved elsewhere. Just saw that they have a price-list, so assumed they were still making / selling the kits.

Wouldn't be fair to say as it had nothing to do with any of their own products...

Hi Scootz,

Guess I’d better put my two penny worth in.

I purchased one of the first MEV Sonic7 kits in late 2008 and built over the winter, taking me approximately 3months. I’ve now covering some 3,000miles, 3 or 4 car shows and although not a great racer managed 1 trackday event.

To summarise, although I’ve had my own ups and downs some caused due to my own mistakes, others associated with being one of the first, if you get my meaning, I have been very pleased with the manufactures support I’ve received and have greatly enjoyed the experience overall. Being a person that probably enjoys the build as much or maybe more than the finished article, I’ve even surprised myself by deciding to keep the car for another year rather than selling it and start a new project.

I’m not going to bore everyone on hear by going into great detail, but for those such as yourself and any other interested parties I’m going to hopefully point you in the right direction:-

My own detailed build site / story http://www.mevsonic7.co.uk

and

The New ‘stand alone’ MEV Owners Group / Club - Website inc Forum http://www.mevowners.co.uk which contains threads on many owners builds.

To clarify some of the previous posts my understanding is that MEV prefer to specialise in design and development, and have as part of a natural progression ‘farmed out’ under licence to RTR ( Road Track Race - http://www.smartsrus.com/rtr.html the sales and manufacturing of the Rocket, Atomic and tR1ke in order to concentrate on the sales and marketing of the newer Sonic7, Missile and etrike products as well as developing new designs. However in reality the company’s work so closely together that from a customer perspective, support, advise and information of any kind is always on hand, now I’m starting to sound like a sales man, so I’ll stop there.

If there’s anything else I can help you or anyone else reading this thread then please get in contact.

( I confess to being intrigued to know what this ’disappointing dealings’ is all about ?)

Thanks for that Nigel... some really interesting stuff there!

I got the impression from my dealings with Stuart that his passion lay in designing / developing viable electric-powered vehicles, so can understand the need to license their products to other parties. All helps to fund the next project!

Hi Scootz,

Glad you found the information and links interesting.

Your not the first to arrive at that impression, and I’m deeply disappointed to here that it soured your experience and prevented you from placing an order. Yes it is true that Stuart has both a flair and passion for the design / developing viable electric-powered vehicles, many perceive that to be the future, but I can assure you that is certainly not the limit of Stuarts interests.

An avid motor sport fan and general all round petrol head he is, committed to the automotive industry and as part of that, the long term success and viability of the kit car industry in particular. The reason for the tie up / relationship with RTR is one of convenience. Rather than MEV increase there own workforce and facilities it was decided to form a relationship with another company who’s goals, and ideals were similar, and who already possessed the facilities, equipment and skills that would complement MEV and enable an increasing customers base to receive the specialist attention they deserve.

I can assure you that MEV, Stuart, is very much committed to the success of all the products that he designs and will happily take orders for and supply, either fully built examples or kits to individual customer requirements, of any of the current range.

I’m doing it again, ‘sounding like a bl__d sales man for MEV’ stoppppppp

I hope that clears it up and look forward to one day reading about your MEV build.
