CF roll cage
hi guys, just looking around at various carbon fibre bits, came upon this, never seen a carbon fibre roll cage before, im sure some of you chaps have,

looks nice... wonder how light it is. At the South Brum meet on monday, we were discussing the merits of a CF propshaft. Would this rollcage not just
snap if too much pressure is applied? Atleast with metal, it will bend but possibly retain some of its structure?
Btw, when I saw the title, i thought it was Omega (Alex) posting... he is CF mad!

id its good for F1 chassis! i'm guessing its a ali honeycomb cf sandwich. the best kind of sandwich  yum

Actually CF is very brittle, F1 and aircraft structures are complex Kevlar & CF laminates sometimes with some glass fibre also..

i guess things have moved on a lot since damon hill and alain prost drove for williams  my book just say aluminium honeycomb and carbon fibre

well theres research into composite shells for tanks (as in ones with big guns on the front, not water tanks), but it certainly doesn't use
carbon fibre. i think the report i found on it was using e-glass, but 3d cloth.
my dissertation's loosely based on composites and impact design and while i've not researched specific materials in too great depth, from
what i've ascertained thus far, i can see that that's a bad idea. it might withstand the first roll, but what about the 4th or the 6th?

the problem with composites is the load paths. as long as in any crash the loads are axial it will be fine, but I have to confess the initial idea
makes me squirm in my seat!
