ultra fast build anyone?
it's possible that i'll be having a couple of quid coming my way in a couple of months which opens up new possibilities.
i'm just guaging interest to see if anyone wents to take part in an experiment to see how quick a kit can be assembled by a team of semi skilled
builders. my thoughts are buying a complete westy kit and getting it to IVA stage in as short a time as poss (i think we could beat Mark Evans with
enough hands)
i would provide all refreshments, BBQ etc. and have space for camping. beers would be flowing freely also (but only when the nasty tools were put
away
what you would take from it is up to you. free tuition on aspects of a build that you werent sure of, meeting other locosters, my eternal gratitude
and free food and drink
it's still all a maybe at the mo but please give your feedback as to wether you think you'd join in and show that we can beat Mr Evans

I think it can be done in 24 hours, possibly 2 x 12 hour shifts as long as everything's there and not needing modifying. You don't need
any more than 4 people working on it at one time cos it gets crowded and I'd have to trust the guys building it before I got in it!
A Westfield or Caterham would be the best option for a speedy build. Westfield put a car together at Stoneleigh a few years back over the course of
the show weekend.

I know it was TV, but Topgear did it in a day didn't they? Two teams of four or five would be the most you'd need. I'll be Clarkson

good responses so far i was thinking of maybe 6-8 people so that there was a social aspect to it as well, like 4 on they car at one time, the other
2-4 having a drink/burger and talking bollards about cars
if i do get the bit of cash i'm expecting, i'd be expecting input from everyone interested in helping Re the spec of the car (bec/cec,
glass/open,colours etc)

ETA also assuming (most importantly) that is is a proper engined car and not a hairdrier [ducks to avoid flying shoes]

i will be open to suggestion on engine (put it to a vote maybe?) depending upon ease if install and price of course. i wont be going for the quad

not sure if i qualify as 'semi skilled' but would love to be involved, im quite good at the old bbq, and will volunteer as beer tester.

My tuppence worth...assuming that you are going for a 24 hour (or quicker) build...
Firstly assemble a team that can service 2 x 12 hour shifts (6 people per shift?). Plus a teaboy/runner.
Identify the kit manufacturer (Westfield as proposed?) Get hold of the build manual. Break down and sequence the build into modules that can be
assembled off the chassis to avoid conflict (not necessarily that recommended by the manufacturer). Delegate these modules and build manual info
amongst the team members to allow familiarisation prior to the event. Ensure at least one team member is proficient in electrickery.
Create a schedule of work (timebound) that provides the team with targets to aim for (and meet - think positive!)
Carry out an inventory check in advance of the event (critical). Shouldn't be an issue if it's a Wesfield modular kit...?
Use this forum for advice on total tooling requirements. Ensure all tooling to hand before starting. To reduce risk, ensure team bring contents of
their garages in the boots of their cars...
Plan to use airtools (particularly drill equipment) - obviously sizeable compressor required...sure somebody on here could facilitate?
Try to carry out the build undercover - the more space the better. Plenty of workbench space/lighting.
Don't overlook oils/greases/consumables etc.
Plenty of Hobnobs (chocolate)
For a real challenge, book the IVA for the next day
Try and get a magazine on board for the build (PPC? although this project would differ in that it get's completed...remember project
'Weisel'?)...might get you a discount from the manufacturer if you can demonstrate advertising benefits?
Count me in if you're serious, I'm only up the road...

I'm only a stones throw from you.
Unfortunately, my skillset would be best suited to making brews and "general dogs body". This I would gladly volunteer for, just for the
experience of watching it all. I'm a good labourer.

I would think a Westfield kit could be built in 24hrs, but I'd (ALWAYS) add a 10% margin to any kitcar job/build, so aim for 24 and plan for 36
etc...
I'd be up for it (date depending) and assuming specific conditions/tools/environment...

well it seems i have the potential crew for the build now. just have to work on securing the cash and we are away
